In most cases it is...

9) Other?
4) Neighboring seat currently unoccupied
1) Window/Aisle preference
2) Extra leg room (such as an exit row)
8) Engine noise

The other stuff I don't care about (or aren't options on the aircraft).

In certain situations (tight connections, etc) I prefer to be at the front of the aircraft for quick deboarding but that isn't as common. However, I mostly Non-Rev, so I get what I'm given

After using seatguru.com to get better leg room, I choose the left or right side window based on the view (can't always predict it) and try to stay opposite the side with the sun.

My favorite: US to Asia. I take the right side window and watch Canada, Alaska, the Bering Straits (one time), Siberia. Better than any movie.

1, 3, and 7. But, 7 in the opposite way - I prefer to pick up the bulkhead since most of my flying is with my daughter. I keep out just enough for take off and the climb, which is easy with a cup of milk and a couple of snacks since the magazine/catalog keep her occupied. Anything else I need I grab can out of overhead later.

For me, it would probably be 1, 7, 2, 6, 3, 4, 8, 5.

(Couldn't find another thread like this by searching and thought this could be fun.)
1,3,7
1 - because I'm left handed and I prefer an aisle seat that has my left arm facing the aisle...
3 - just because after 10 - 12 hours on the plane, I'm anxious to get off the plane quicker, clear immigration...
7 - I like easy access to a few things during the long international flight

You already had my order. 1, 2, 3, 4 and don't care so much about the rest.

My most important concern is to NOT be on an aisle. Thankfully, the rest of you consider an aisle to be one of your most important requirements, so I can always get out of an aisle to have a middle. Prefer window, but give me a middle seat anytime over an aisle. Worst seats on any aircraft, any airline. Nope, not sitting on the aisle, never, no way!

My preference don't tend to map to that, and vary by flight, but they run roughly to:

#1) Not a middle seat (waivable in rare conditions.)
#2) A reclineable seat (waivable on very short flights.)
#3A) If it's a short flight with a connection, forward aisle.
#3B) If it's a longer flight or a short one where I am not connecting after, a window seat
#3C) On ERJs, the A seats with no neighbors are the best of both worlds.
#3D) On MD80s, I always try to sit on the 2-seat side, not the 3-seat side
#4) A bulkhead/exit without raisable armrests is nice - as someone with a somewhat wide arse, this helps avoid any question of my possibly impinging on anyone else's space. Only downside to it is if the seat next door is empty, I can't take advantage of that.
#5) A bulkhead/exit with or without the armrests is always nice!
#6) All other things being equal, access to a power port is a very nice thing on longer flights.
#7) All other things being equal, I try to avoid rows with a blank wall rather than a window.

Otherwise:
2) Extra leg room (such as an exit row)
-- room to use a laptop is more relevant, and generally, only bulkheads have enough room.

3) Close to the front of the plane
-- very for me relevant with short connections, irrelevant to me with longer (international) connections or when flying direct

4) Neighboring seat currently unoccupied
-- ah, if only there were a way to usefully predict this!

5) Distance from the lav
-- irrelevant to me

7) Having a seat in front of you for underseat storage
-- irrelevant to me

8) Engine noise
-- irrelevant to me

I tend to gravitate to the first exit row like a moth to a flame

Give me (1) a window seat, (3) forward of the wing, (6) that reclines, (9) with power connections and good IFE. The combination of being forward of the engines and my headset take care of noise issues. Being somewhat short takes care of others. Almost never use the lav onboard except TATL or TPAC.

Also, I'm either reading, watching TV/movie, eating, sleeping, or some combination of these, so I don't usually care who sits next to me (of course I'd much rather have a lovely young lady there than a huge, smelly guy). Actually, I think I'm the perfect person to sit next to you - I rarely get up, don't flow over into your space, keep quiet, and have good hygiene.

Window seat on the non-sunny side either in front of the wing or as near the back as possible. The view matters.

Aisle seat (I'm 6'4") and as close to the front of the plane as I can get. I like getting off the plane as soon as possible.

Legroom first (i.e., Economy Plus on UA is mandatory if I don't have an upgrade), then a window, preferably with nobody beside me (if the aisle is already occupied, so much the better). Avoid rows with misaligned or missing windows, or with half-length armrests on the wall (usually only an issue in exit rows). If in new-configuration C on UA, also prefer forward-facing (solely for viewing purposes; even after over 40 years of flying I still get a kick out of looking out the window).
