LOL!!! I nearly dropped my computer I'm laughing so hard -- thanks for making my day! I guess I did participate in an Amazing Race at ORD, but I definitely didn't come out first. :-)

We had 15 minutes to find a statue of 'Balto' the dog in Central Park to win the game. Normally, when we would ask for directions or help, e'd ask a SECOND source just to make sure. Well, in our haste, we relied on ONE source and didn't consult backup source and it turned out our directions were crappy and we had to hightail to finish line emptyhanded, but at least avoiding late arrival point penalty. Alsas, our rivals had also arrived on time and with that crucial challenge in the bag!!

Having applied for The Amazing Race with beaubo in 2005, I for one can't wait for the announcement here as I'm sure whatever he has in store will be fantastic!
Does anyone know if there's any "Amazing Race" style travel/tour available anywhere? In my 2009 travel plans I'm contemplating mileage runs to random places, and that made me think of the show. Rather than just flying there and back for no reason, I'd love to fly there and then follow some obscure clues to catch some of the local flavor or famous landmarks.

I'm not sure why beaubo hasn't posted in this thread that his site is live now. Perhaps rules prevent posting commercial links?
In any case, I presume you can do a web search for "Competitours" and find out all about his new plan. I definitely plan on doing this sometime in the next few years, as soon as my little ones are old enough to either accompany me without too much hassle, or at least be left with grandma for an extended time frame!
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Travel will be much more fun now!

The Amazing Race for the Rest of Us and the Timeshare Presentation
It seems the perfect way to describe the new travel concept being introduced by Steve Belkin this week. Check out Competitours this week when the link becomes active. Just Google it.
"To paraphrase, that's been the feedback for COMPETITOURS, a new vacation concept-
a breakthrough 17-team travel competition as a 2 week, 5 country European vacation.
COMPETITOURS offers a compelling and user-friendly travel proposition for the 'rest of us'
who would enjoy the thrill of a competition, but with challenges that offer a more immersive
and genuine interaction with European people, places and culture. Our challenges will
focus on teams' mental abilities such as creativity, resourcefulness and inventiveness instead
of the brute speed and strength that characterize The Amazing Race extreme 'stunts'.
The game schedule, point system and routing are structured to ensure that teams can savor,
not speed through Europe. The grand prize is unprecedented considering the reasonable
cost of this unique travel opportunity. Oh by the way, the game itinerary will be a secret!!"
