Early morning Departure from SDL

Does anyone like me live near SDL in North Scottsdale? I live probably less than a mile away, and this morning at 4.20 AM I heard a very noisy jet takeoff. Sure enough a few hours later I did some quick research on flightaware and found out it was indeed a Gulfstream that had taken off at 4.20 am headed to the Bahamas. I thought SDL only allowed departues > 6 am, or am I mistaken?

SDL has what is called a "voluntary curfew" in place from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. What this means is operations between these times are strongly discouraged, but not prohibited. Speaking for the general aviation pilots, we tend to comply with these whenever possible. My advice to you though (without knowing where you live exactly in relation to the airport) is to look at the map on page two of this link. http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/Assets/d...uide_10-05.pdf If your home is a considerable distance from one of the green lines you may want to consider flying a complaint at this link. http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/airport/...complaints.asp

Interesting info, thank you. I looked at page two and live directly within the green noise abatement departure track. The only was reason I was up at 4.20 is b/c it woke me up
