When to purchase airfares to Europe for August?

We, couple with a child, need to purchase airfares for DC-Paris and London-DC for early to mid August. Currently, the low price is in the low $1k with 1 stop. Is there a via route that we could do to spend less perhaps saving 100-200 for each. We would do max. of 1 stop.

Should we purchase the airfare now, wait, and when is the latest that we ought to do this purchase?

Thank you.

What we ought to do first is move this to the appropriate forum

Hi dcd,
Welcome to FlyerTalk.

You seem to have confused Mileage Run Deals forum with a travel agent or a forum for general questins a travel agent could answer.

Here is something to help explain Mileage Run Deals forum, what gets posted to that forum and elsewhere and what you can expect in the forum and what is expected of people posting (sharing fares!) there:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...rums-work.html

Since your question is not specific to a particular carrier/alliance nor related to frequent flyer programs/miles, I've moved it to the general discussion forum, TravelBuzz!

You may also find some discussion in other forums, specific to airlines.

Some airlines may give a guide to price fluctuations (I know that Qantas does) to show peaks and troughs in the fare cycle.

Best of luck and you can always find someone to help if you ask in the appropriate forum.

Cheers,

The advice that you received in your first thread on this topic still holds true. $1000 to Europe in summer is not out of line. It sounds as if you want to fly into Paris and return via London. Keep in mind 1) UK departure taxes are expensive and 2) open-jaw itineraries often cost more. You might reduce your cost by flying into and out of Paris, and get to/from England by train. Also, check alternate departure airports in the US.

have you used the ITA software search engine? You can enter multiple cities in a single query AND search a flexible date range. The more flexible you are the better luck you'll have.

Let's follow the discussion in the thread linked in the previous post by biggreen. In that way, we'll be faithful to FlyerTalk's procedure that we not cross-post the same topic. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.
