Learning SABRE or AMADEUS commands?

Does anyone know where you can learn SABRE without going to work for an airline or travel agent? Or even a "cheat sheet" of the various booking commands?

I have access to SABRE, but can't hardly do anything more than log on, book new flights from a stupid GUI, and logout. I want to do MORE!

May I ask how you have access to SABRE??? Not all SABRE commands will work for you.... for example, as a travel agent I do not have the same access to stuff on SABRE as an AA gate agent would and vice versa. It totally depends on how and why you have access as to what you can do. A lot of colleges and universities that have travel/tourism programs offer classes on SABRE as well as travel schools. There is also a little cheat book you can buy. It is usually available at most flight shops, however it will vary. For example, I have an AA one, but a lot of the codes won't work for me since I have access to SABRE as a travel agent.

Also check this out... this is pretty basic though http://www.certrav.net/Lesson 2 Sample.pdf

I have access as a travel agent - I just don't have any training opportunity available to me. So I am totally floundering and about to throw in the towel.

Can you point me to one in the Seattle area? What would I search for?

Can you recommend a specific book title for travel agents? Or even tell me where I could order the AA book (what is it's title?)? Where do I find a "travel shop"?

I am very encouraged by your response. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Look up a company called Incentive Connection Travel. You can join them as an associate agent and get their Sabre training kit for free

Once you are trained, what is stopping you from cancelling your contract with ICT

IATA and places like ASTA and such have on line study courses for GDS systems. Some are expensive, some are cheap, but you get what you pay for. Some are geared to all systems some are based on just one or two systems and gives you a good taste and teaching of the systems.

Tourism Colleges can get costly, I'd try online or self study first. If you're a TA then you should have access or association with something that has training like ASTA or IATA.

View stored AVS in Sabre core.

Does anyone know the Sabre command to see the stored AVS statuses used by Sabre in case of link down to the airline or time out?

Those statuses are sent in advance by the airline to Sabre in AVS TTY form.

It would be the equivalent in Sabre to the VAVS transaction in 1A, i.e. the true AVS held in Sabre's "VIS" records.

I have access to an airline servicing terminal (non hosted).

Realizing that this is an old thread,

For SEA-area FTers, Edmonds Community College (officially located in Lynnwood) offers travel and tourism courses. I remember them teaching a course each fall that focuses on teaching Sabre. You could contact the instructor there for advice and information about good books on the subject. For those who live elsewhere, see if any community colleges in your area offer courses in the subject.

Keep us updated with what you find out as I and many others would be open to learning the commands for SABRE and other systems.
