I prefer leather. Unless I am stuck in the blazing sun on the tarmac with minimal A/C waiting for take off. Sweat happens...yikes

Leather

No good reason except that leather appears to be more "cleanable". Of course this has no basis in my realm of knowledge - I have no clue how often either cloth or leather seats are cleaned and I'm probably better off not knowing.

I work for Alaska. We are in the process of changing to all leather.
These are expensive to start with but in the long run will end up saving money as they do not have to be changed and send out for cleaning
as they just have to be wipped off.

I generally prefer leather. It is cooler and smoother.

But the only reason it feels more luxurious on airlines is because the seats it covers generally are more comfortable to begin with.

Some things I do not like about leather:
-Harder to clean properly. Have you ever whipped a leather seating surface in a public area with a hygenic wipe? Yuck. Cloth seats are easier to clean.
-Not breathable unless perforated
-Sometimes can make obnoxious noises if not upholested properly
-Slipping and sliding

Leather definiately feels nicer to me, and strangely feels cleaner.

I do wonder if leather absorbs less sweat than cloth seats.

leather is nicer. especially on a wider seat...

I prefer the leather on hauls of transcons and less.

On intercontinental travel, I prefer cloth because it ends up being more comfortable to sleep on.

don't know about coach seats, I think they'd be uncomfortable either way.

Leather

The cost is higher initially but it is so much better for the longhaul for airlines to use it. So much easier to keep clean and lasts longer.

Leather is definitely better but only when I know it was sanitized shortly before I sit there.

I don't really care one way or the other, but do vegans and Hindus choose airlines based on lack of leather? Seems like it would be a factor.
