This thread is great

I just got this thread as a link from TalkMail. I'm also ROFLMAO. I WILL be checking all of these secret places from this point forward.

Quick question for you road warriors on hotel cleanliness. It has always been my rule that I don't sit on/lie on/touch the comforter because it is more likely to be "CSI black light" guilty than the sheets which are washed in hot water. Am I just fooling myself or do any of you also feel better about the cleanliness of the sheets than the comforter?

But what about the blanket? I'm sure they aren't laundered/changed between each guest. I need something else other than just a sheet when I'm sleeping in a room with the a/c on to circulate the air or block out outside noises.

Marriott is claiming they change the comforter now when a guest checks out.
Not that I'm questioning their statement but how do you tell?
I'm NOT giving it a sniff test.

Too late - returned the car at ATL Friday morning with the matchbook and said phone number still in the same spot I found it. However, if anyone here rented a white Buick Rendezvous with leather and XM and about 2,200 miles from National at ATL on Friday, you might open up the big center compartment in the front console and then lift up the small tray in the top of it. Down below, in the larger section, you'll find the matchbook!

I try not to think about such things. I almost prefer not knowing what's there and just believing it's going to be okay. And I can't say I've ever been made sick by anything I've encountered in a hotel room.

No porn, but my hotel room for the first part of this week had some not-so-nice goodies left behind that housekeeping obviously neglected to find. There's a used q-tip under the desk -- it's quite obvious when viewed against the dark green carpet. Don't see how they missed it. And the real clencher -- the toilet had about three pieces of toilet paper floating in it when I checked in. They did not appear to be used, the water was clear, and there was (thankfully!) nothing else floating in the water. But, eeeww, gross! How could they have missed this? At least a quick flush took care of it but now I can't help but wonder what else they didn't really clean.

And I did check under the drawers and found nothing.

I worked in a hotel as a teenager and the comforter/blankets were never changed out unless they displayed robust uncleanliness . So whoever has slept or done *whatever* in contact with those items before you, you are sleeping with it now.

The sheets, however, were changed between every guest and on the third day any one guest stayed on the property. They used bleach to keep them white, which also kills any little germy creatures, so I feel safe with that...as long as the sheets are between ME and the binkies, it's all cool.

I doubt anyone has ever gotten some nasty disease off of them, but it is something to think about. Or ponder on a sleepless night hehehehe.

Well in addition to the other disgusting things I found, the comforter here has some visible stains on the underside. It will be on the floor tonight.

Now I think I know why my client this week has such a cheap rate at this place. Their housekeeping is the pits!

The pillow case and sheets may be clean, but how old is the pillow? I cannot sleep on a smelly old pillow! I have even considered taking my own, does that make me weird?

I hope not. I carry my own pillow with me everywhere I go. I normally only use it at Marriott's, since I don't like their pillows. But if it is a small or local place and the cleanliness is suspect or the pillow appears to be extremely old and skanky, my trusty pillow is spending the night with me in my room.

It also works good if you want to sleep in your car some night.

I have been looking behind drawers every since this thread started and so far my only "winnings" is one clean sock, which I left in its hiding place.
