Why do so many people hide adult-oriented magazines behind drawers in hotel rooms?

Thanks for the low down, people! I can hardly wait for my next hotel stay.
As for why not ditch it in the usual way: At the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong with its legendary service I was busy checking out when I realised my reading glasses were missing. I turned to go back to my room but before I got to the lift the duty manager was there with them in his hand. Apparently as soon as a guest leaves the room (does the porter tell them? or the front desk? it was awfully quick) they check it out for any forgotten items.
Imagine somone hailing you in the lobby with: "Excuse me Mr./Ms. Smith, I believe these are your copies of Gigantic Jugs/ Donkey Dong/... (fill in your personal preference here)

Ok, now I don't feel quite so crazy for sometimes lifting up toilet tank lids in hotels to see how old the toilet is thereby estimating the age of the hotel itself.

I remember from Psych. 101 that if we really knew what others thought of us, we would never speak to them again.
The hotel corollary of that is if we really knew what has been done in that room and on that same mattress, we'd never stay in a hotel again.

Because most of us don't run through the woods anymore looking for Playboy stashes in forts like we did when we were 10 years old, so we have to find the material somehow.

Checked out of a hotel last week where I overheard a woman IRATE at the desk agent because her 12-year-old son found adult magazines shoved under his rollaway bed while she was out of the room. Seemed like the hotel was going to be comping her stay.
Somewhat humourous, but probably not if I was the parent.

What a great idea for a post. You better believe I am going to look thru my room at the Sheraton as soon as I check in tonight!
Never thought about it before.

I dated a girl a while ago. She absolutely does NOT
sleep on hotel sheets. Not even when we stayed a week
at the brand spanking new Mandarin Oriental Washington
DC earlier this year. We brought our own sheets and had
the maids put them on.
Then again, it was Washington, DC after all... who knows
what went on in the room...
I, on the other hand, just ignore the fact that hundreds, if
not thousands of people may have "done it" on the hotel
bed I'm sleeping on. As long as it looks clean, I just hit
pillow. (especially when I have no choice not to stay at
hotels because of business)
