I hope that I am posting this query on the correct board. If not, apologies.
I noticed a PIA plane at ORD a couple of weeks ago and discocered that PIA has two flights/week between ORD and Birmingham, England.
To judge from their website, the fares are great!
I have called PIA to the attention of a colleague who would like to take his family of 5 to Europe and cannot afford the high season fares on the majors.
Have I done my colleague a disservice by directing him to PIA? I have never flown the carrier.
Oh, I believe PIA is as satisfactory as just about any other airline; although keep in mind that the low fare is going to mean that you may not enjoy the same amenities as you would on United or British Airways.

I believe PIA operates this route with an A310, which will be no more than 10 years old and features decent in-cabin screens (although no personal IFE as on their new 777s). Try and book through a Pakistani consolidator agent in Chicago - there should be plenty on Devon Ave. The service on PIA should probably be fine, the food will probably be pretty good, and the seats should have plenty of space in between. Not a luxury travel experience but it shouldn't be much worse than AA/UA (excepting lack of IFE, miles, etc.).

Actually, PIA's A310s will all be OVER 10 years old next month, with the oldest ones coming up on 13 years old.

According to piac.com this route is served by the 777.
The 777 is brand new and this should be a pleasant experience (as pleasant as any flight on a 777 can be anyway) with little chance of any tech problems, something that seems to afflict their 747 fleet quite a lot.
PIA Website is www.piac.com.pk The one stated is something else.
PIA are currently operating twice a week from Chicago through Birmingham to Pakistan with an A310 (a long way for one of those). Their 6 A310s were built 1991-4, new for the airline. From March 28 this changes to one of their brand new this year 777s operating through Manchester instead of Birmingham. However the bulk of the new 777s will be replacing the old PIA 747-200 fleet, some of which are over 30 years old.
