That's not bad for a OW rate for 15 days ($40/day). Do you plan to drive from ORF to Allentown over the whole 15 days or plan to spend more time at one then the other? If so, reserve a local rental at the end you want to spend more time at then do the OW rental for the least amount of days.

Yes, I will stay in Tidewater VA area for 8 days before driving north. You are suggesting 2 consecutive car rentals vs. one? I will compare. I use travelocity, orbitz -- is there another considered likeliest low price offer? Priceline, hotwire don't allow for one-ways? Regards.

I don't know how often you travel, but if you rent frequently from any one rental company, you can negotiate.
I drove one way from Jackson Hole WY to Phoenix, and the drop off charge was $750. I got it waved. I had them look up my history, and they saw that I spent over 75 days a year in rentals for the past 6 years. They wee happy to keep me as a customer.

Here's my experience with this. My sister did ABQ-PHX OW 2 years ago. The OW charge was horrendous. She was able to reduce the total charge (all using National) some 25-30% by making a booking for ABQ-ABQ and then a subsequent one for ABQ-PHX.
Don't Orbitz except as a guide.

Shopped $632 down to $492 so far by combining 7-day Norfolk local in Budget via travelocity.com + 9-day VA-->PA one-way in Hertz via Hertz.com
Thanks for tips! Regards.
PS. any leads to Budget / Hertz one-way coupons appreciated.
