Travel from PHL to CAI

We are looking to either use AA Miles to fly business from Philadelphia to Cairo or to possibly use AA system wide upgrades. Looking for help in deciding which airlines would be best to use providing they are all part of the one one alliance. Alos not sure what routes would be best to use as there are no direct flights from PHL. And finally would it be best to use the miles to fly business or to book economy and use the system wide upgrades.

If you have AA miles you'll most likely fly PHL-LHR-CAI and use British Airways.

Avoid fuel surcharges (I think) and fly a better airline, going PHL-DOH-CAI on Qatar. That would need to be with miles - SWU's wouldn't apply.

Iberia flies it as a codeshare on BA/AA metal - not sure what that would do with surcharges. Flights would be through LHR.

I don't know how you would actually go about booking it, but Qatar Airways is part of Oneworld. There is a PHL-DXB flight and then some flights from there to Cairo. It will take about an hour longer as you are going a ways past Egypt.

Depending on the dates, that routing to cairo is only about 700 round trip in economy right now

There is no PHL-DXB flight (at least not direct on QR). QR flies PHL-DOH.

You should read these threads:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...ssistance.html (you'll be looking for MileSAAver award seats, and this thread explains how, where, etc.)

QR is a decent airline and you avoid paying the high YQ fees BA will charge you for flying BA. IB has YQ, but much lower than BA.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...aster-thd.html (After you read that, this addresses QR specifically.)

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...es-2015-a.html (Further details the rules pertaining to awards on AA partner airlines.)

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...er-thread.html (About SWU - can only be used in AA marketed and operated flights.)

Use the interactive oneworld map and schedule to see which oneworld airlines can get you to Cairo. Link.

Please read over at least the Wikiposts at the top of the pages of those threads, then feel free to ask further questions in the relevant threads. In particular, the SAAver Help Desk thread is dedicated to your interest.

We will close this thread so you can proceed. Good luck with your plans!
