I'd probably try the Seychelles + a stopover. Someplace far where deals are rare.

If you want interensting, you can always try North Korea, Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine...

No personal experience, but just a little googling turned up several folks who posted trip reports about their Antarctic-on-a-budget excursions. Seems 3-5K is the ballpark cost.
