ANA Buys Pan Am

ANA purchased Pan Am for $139.5M

Pan Am, based in Miami, was a portfolio company of private equity firm American Capital Ltd. ANA is parent company of All Nippon Airways Co. Ltd. Pan Am Holdings Inc. was the flight training service of the former Pan Am World Airways but remained in operation even as Pan Am's brand is long gone.

Thoughts?

Better they should have the brand than that New England freight railroad mogul who painted the blue meatball on crappy old boxcars.

They should re-brand their aircraft in old Pan Am livery, at least they have the level of service to do the old logo proud. Would certainly make them more visible to the average US customer who likely has no idea what ANA is.

First question: why?
They can't operate an airline (foreign ownership rules). Will they use it to train FAs?

I find it interesting to see that the PAA brand will apparently be expanded thanks to the acquisition. It still has a tremendous amount of brand equity.

Pan Am Flight Academy, Last Remaining Division of Iconic Airline, Sold to ANA

The last remaining remnant of Pan American World Airways, the Pan Am International Flight Academy, was sold to ANA Holdings, the parent of All Nippon Airways.

The Pan Am International Flight Academy is one of the largest providers of flight simulation and aviation training services ...
