Best transcon airline?

In July I have to fly JFK-LAX. I would like to fly DL but the are significantly more expensive than UA. Out of DL, AA, UA and Alaska Airlines, which airline offers the best transcon service? From what I've read, UA is the least best.

In what class? Why didn't you include Virgin and Jet Blue in your list? In Y I'd choose either of those before DL, UA, AA or Alaska.

Is this in Y?

I would probably choose UA, for the free E+. But I would probably prefer B6 or VX instead.

Does AS fly JFK-LAX?

Flying Y, having no status. AS shows up when I look up flights.

My choices would be
1) Virgin America
2) Jet Blue
3) DL
4) AA
5) UA
I have never flown Alaska so can't say about them. You will likely have to buy your own food on any of those so buy something at the airport to take on board. Virgin has the best AVOD and Jet Blue has live satellite TV and good seat pitch. I have status on both *A and Skyteam and if it wasn't for that, I'd fly Virgin or Jet Blue every time in Y.

Travelocity shows 'AS flights', but they are operated by DL or AA.

I always take Virgin when I travel because I like the services their crew is giving to passengers and I have also been one of their loyal clients...

Currently I'd say Delta BusinessElite is the best all around and you can find good BE fares. In a matter of months the AA A321T will be the very best IMO.

Would agree with you on DL currently being the best premium cabin choice.
But for Y and no status, I wouldn't fly any of the legacies. I agree with NYTA that B6 or VX would be the best choices for Y.

Flatbed on UA in F. Look into EWR, too

Not a chance. P.s. First is an embarrassment. Old tattered cabin and seats. Crappy UA food. There is reason few pay for it and that UA is planning to drop 3 class service from JFK-LAX/SFO this year.

As others have said, definitely VX and B6 for economy. (unless miles/network outweigh the crappier experience on the legacies - that's a tradeoff you need to decide for yourself)

Thanks. I am still leaning towards DL because our transatlantic flights are on KLM and I know Skyteam well. I might also gain Skyteam Elite before the trip.
Price wise, B6 and VX seem a good choice as we take 4 bags and then UA is not so cheap anymore.
