Will Hurricane Sandy affect flights in the rest of the USA?

Will Hurricane Sandy affect people who are flying in the central and western parts of the USA this week?

Yes, there will be a chain reaction of delays all across the country. Internationally too.

Are there many aircraft left at eastern seaboard airports or have they all been removed elsewhere?

Yes.
Any disruption in one major airport has ripple effects that can disrupt the entire system of the airline with a hub at that airport. This disruption is spread over many airports.

I think a lot that could not be stuffed into hangers were moved. Tons of aircraft parked in Chicago. It will take a few days to get everything repositioned. With winds estimated in Chicago tomorrow of 30-35, it will be hard to get flights in/out of here, I suspect.

A number of aircraft stayed in Orlando, FL rather than return to the NE.

It will get too impossible for flying. Due to weather. I don't think he's flying. Because it will be very extremely dangerous out there. I think there is severe bad weather out there and it may get a several experienced the turbulence.

Examples...

Son in law scheduled on UA/CO out of IAH Sunday evening for a trade show in LAS. Flight cancelled. Resked for Tuesday PM flight, after being offered a IAH/SFO/LAS late Monday requiring RON in SFO.

Stood buy all day Monday at IAH, finally able to board 5th flight direct to LAS.

Niece in Paris, scheduled to fly AA back to Texas through JFK Monday. CNXed, with 3 day wait, but convinced agent (She's "elite') to be accommodated on another airline to MAD, then got a middle seat in Y on AA's direct to DFW Tuesday after RON at MAD.
