If I have a shortish connection to another flight on a different airline and have to manually transfer my bags can I request my bags to be tagged Priority so they come off the airplane first (if I show proof of the connection of course).
The connecting airport is Changi and both the flights are on Tiger.
I am just curious as someone suggested I could do this to gain some more time...

But, to your question. I've had luck getting my bags tagged as "short connection" when connection on a single airline, I haven't tried when changing airlines. Remember, that to interline a bag pulls it out of the normal stream, likely to go on a different baggage cart which will then sit until someone has time to drive it over to the other airline. I'd be worried if you're truly of 2 different airlines.

well, I was told that if I have a short connection I can request my bag to be tagged Priority and it will come out on the belt earlier...wanted to verify if there is any truth to this. I posted in other threads about my connection at Changi

Most of the time those tags are useless. So many (frustrating) times I've been waiting at baggage carousels for my bags to come out which have priority/first class tags and all that's coming out are non-tagged bags.

Agreed. On one trip lately, the priority bags were the last to arrive.

Your post makes no sense -
"connection to another flight on a different airline ... both the flights are on Tiger."
That said many airlines will check bags through even to another airline as such you may not need to retrieve your bags. They will do the check through even if you have two separate tickets.

We are talking about Changi, not JFK or LAX.
Priority tags are very effective there.

I agree that those tags are pretty much useless. That being said, I've seen bags marked as **HOT** in big bold letters, with the stars on them, for short connections. I think considering how many elites there are, thats probably the best way for the ground crew to see that your bag needs to make a tight connection.
I've had really good luck with the priority tags on Delta so far. 12 minutes from block in (aircraft comes to stop at gate) until my bag comes out of the gate in BNA. Only 15 minutes in MIA. Haven't tried on an international flight yet.

It all depends on the airport. Different airport worldwide has different culture and attitute towards priority tags on luggage.

Many LCC airline do not interline bags, many do not even forward to another of their own flight(Tiger is one of many). It keeps the cost down and operation efficient. Load and unload; let the traveler sort out which plane it gets on.

Tiger airlines, in order to minimize cost DOES NOT TRANSFER BAGS FROM ONE TIGER FLIGHT TO ANOTHER:
Copied from Tiger's web site:
...
Check-in baggage
I'm transferring from one flight to another. Can I check in my luggage before my first flight, and claim it after my second flight?
Tiger Airways is strictly a 'point-to-point' airline. We therefore do not offer and cannot facilitate, the transfer of passengers or their baggage to other flights, whether operated by Tiger Airways or other airlines.
Check-in must be done at each port of embarkation. All passengers are to ensure they have relevant travel documents/visas where necessary.
