EU/USA/Israel - Iran conflict / war --> oil price --> higher airline tkt prices

Well..perhaps you have heard of the ongoing conflict between EU/USA/Israel - Iran (And directly/indirectly China, Russia, etc...), EU/Syria..etc..Strait of Hormuz, blah blah blah...

well..it is 2012...so let's see what happens..a toast to the Mahdi coming out of a well in Jamarkan!! Ha! Everyone seems to be waiting for someone / something... hope springs eternal. Does anyone wait for no one/nothing?

http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/411301.aspx

...so there are various projections on how high the price of oil would rise...up to $200/barrel...whatever.

My question then...the last time oil prices rose to around $150, what was the effect on airline ticket prices? Was it just some kind of (even higher) surcharge? How long after oil went up did it reflect in ticket prices?

Did airlines swallow it for awhile or did base fares increase "overnight"...I didn't pay too much attention last time (Maybe I just grumbled at the cost) though I flew over the Atlantic in the latter half of 2008.

Was it a mix, some airlines increasing tkt prices, but some toeing the line (I thought Southwest used to do a lot of fuel hedging...)

Some links I found (But more are more recent 2011) ---

Nice table! for Award tkt fuel surcharges!

If there is another war the price of airline tickets should be the least of our worries.

I think the state of the economy is likely to be a much larger driver of airline ticket prices, particularly in premium classes.

Moderator note re this topic

As this is the TravelBuzz forum, just a friendly reminder to please limit discussion to the travel aspects/effects of rising oil prices.

We do have an OMNI forum open for general discussion of oil crises, but not all on the thread are OMNI-qualified. Thanks, Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.

If the economy in the US got better that would also cause higher oil prices.

I guess it will have an effect.
And in the long run there will be more taxes as well - speaking of climate change and all that. So not only the oil price but the taxes on jet fuel will lead to higher ticket prices.
Kind regards
