I live in L.A. and fly out of LAX pretty frequently. I've seen a number of celebrities of reasonable fame with and without families.

Imagine you can afford to own a jet, but would rather support a charitable foundation. Or you have a regular commute from NYC to LA for a show that shoots a regular schedule. On the other hand, you might not be all that wealthy, but have a stalker.

They're just people, trying to live their lives in a way that makes the most sense to their personal needs and priorities.

If Sir Paul can fly commercial, I guess we all can... And he can probably afford to buy a few Jets. But why? First is pretty good and you don't have to put up XXX Million in advance just to have a seat.
Well, in his pre-Sir Paul era he certainly was not rushed through customs when he visited Tokyo (private jet or not)

Yup. A non-celeb wealthy low key buddy of ours always flies commercial. He does fly in first though. A guy I used to know sat on a board with a billionaire non-celeb. Not only does the man fly commercial, he flies coach. His friends asked him why he never bought a jet. His response: All the planes that go wherever I want to go. What's the point?

The SAG rules for flying actors applies to their movie contracts and personal appearances regarding those films.
It does not apply to personal appearances, say like the San Diego Comic Con, or some other convention of that type. Their agents don't even book those shows, actors use someone like me, a convention manager/agent for booking those shows.
All my actors fly commercial and mostly they will fly first class, BUT there are many times when the actor will request a coach seat if it negotiates a better price to their fee for their appearance.

Gotta happen sometime.. the expense deduction side has to kick in sometime down the road, as too much wealth means too much taxes..

"A" private jet? Buffett's company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns NetJets.

I'm reminded of the time when Adam Clayton (of U2) was arrested in Ireland for pot, but the cops basically said that, as the second largest tax revenue source in Ireland (after Guinness), they couldn't afford to have him in jail. So he got off with a lecture and a big donation to a charity.

most of the officials from government in DC fly commercial. for example, supreme court justices frequently fly commercial. i do not think this wise, as i do not think those identified as the far left are safe from the far right. i think this a bigger problem than physical harm to right by left. i think there is greater threat to wealthy than to famous.

i realize most do not consider anthony kennedy a celebrity, or even know who he is, but he may be the most powerful "decider" in the world today. he is also an invisible person. a lot of people know of and recognize scalia and thomas and most of the rest. they have been seen and recognized on planes(a danger to them). kennedy is unheard and unknown.

Really?

I don't think that's appropriate (or asked for) in Travelbuzz.

Here's one story that blew me away...

On May 31, 2011, a press conference was held in Winnipeg to announce the relocation of the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers to that city. One of the team owners is David Thomson, the richest man in Canada and patriarch of the 16th richest family in the world. Total net worth in 2010 estimated at $23 billion.

David Thomson came to Winnipeg that morning on an Air Canada flight, traveling in economy class as noted on the twitter feed of a TSN reporter who was on the same flight (Darren Dreger I think, but I could be wrong).

That absolutely blew my mind. That a guy who could buy a private jet with the change in his pocket decided to fly AC Y was almost unbelievable. One of the richest guys in the world and not an ounce of DYKWIA whatsoever.

I guess a guy like him has nothing to prove to anyone so he doesn't get worked up about that kind of thing.

I wouldn't think celebrities or "wealthy" folk fly business or first to prove anything, but merely for comfort... why fly cramped in a small seat when you could fly in a private suite for a price difference of "insignificant"?
