Traveling to Canada / Passport expiring in 4 months

Subscribe
I've been putting off renewing my passport due to a less than optimal haircut - I know I know, but I'll have to live with it for 10 years.

I just realized I will need my passport to travel to Canada next Friday for a wedding. My passport expires in December (4 months from now). I'm making a quick weekend trip. Will I have any problems? I already checked the CO website and travel.gov website and there is nothing about 6 months passport validity for Canada...

Good question. While some countries require 6 months validity, Canada is not one of those and you should be OK.

This travels site says only a valid passport, as long as it hasn't expired...

And the CBSA doesn't say anything about extended validity...

Thanks - I can run to the local passport agency and get it expedited/renewed, but I'd really hate to do that if I don't have to! Definitely will do it after the trip.

It should be fine since I've been doing the reverse, going to US with less than 6 months validity.
At least neither countries have touch on this yet from the old days

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I have a real life data point to add.

This Canadian Govt website says your passport need only be valid for the duration of your stay: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca...as/FAQ.aspx#a3

I travelled to Canada with 5 months left on my British passport. I was diverted to immigration before leaving the airport. After a bit of tooth sucking, I had a piece of paper stapled into my passport limiting my stay in Canada to a date prior to expiration of my passport (much longer than my planned stay though). The standard passport stamp would have entitled me to stay for 6m, which the border control guys didn't seem comfortable with given my passport's validity.
