Connecting cities you've never visited.

I've connected in ATL about 30 times in my life, but it has never been a final destination for me. I stayed at one of the airport hotels once when I missed the last flight of the day, but that's the extent I've seen the city.

I've been through CDG 10 times, but I have never left the airport and hence have never seen Paris.

Anybody else ever find that they've never actually visited their main connecting cities?

Strange timing--I had basically this exact conversation with a friend of mine the other day. This summer I attended a wedding in Charlotte, which marked my first visit to the city itself after making dozens of connections in CLT over the years. That leaves only CVG and ATL as places where I've connected but not yet "officially" visited (and I've only set foot in CVG 3x and in ATL twice). Never been to MSP, HOU or MEM (airport or city). I have been to every other domestic hub airport and corresponding city. I always get a kick out of seeing a familiar airport from the other side of security for the first time.

Internationally, have visited every place I've connected except SIN and HKG.

ORD. I don't have a clue how many connections I've made there. Never set foot out of the airport.

For me, CLT, BOS, LAX, ANC, MEM, PVG, YHZ, YYC, GUM, JHB

Probably a few others I forget.

Great question! For me, the ones I can remember are SLC, ABQ, YYZ, and TPE. Actually, TPE was a stop on a direct flight where I didn't even get off the aircraft, but I'll count it

DEN (driven through, but never actually spent any time visiting the city), but it's been a final destination for some of my flights.

CLT, GRU, ARN, I think that's it.

If I have a long layover, I try at least to get into town and explore a bit.

Been through Singapore a few times and Dubai. No desire to see more of UAE, but definitely plan to get to Singapore some time.

I do just the opposite.

I have family/favorite places/friends in both Paris and Amsterdam, so I make it a point of building in extended stopovers using KL and AF...sometimes I think it's the only reason I'm loyal to Skyteam...

I've been through LA 4 times on my way to/from Australia and have never been outside of LAX's premises.

Same, really, goes for Manchester, England (even though I did spend a night in the hotel, I never actually saw the city).

Brisbane is another one that was a transit city, as well as Phoenix, AZ.

Singapore and Auckland are the only ones I can really think of, both of which are places I'd be happy to visit. I've had planes stop in various places I've never visited but I did not (and was not allowed to) get off the plane in those, including Port Vila, Lagos, and Dakar.

I've never really been to Miami, though I've driven through it and been to various surrounding suburbs, so that might count.

i can't think of one, however i'll contemplate it and post any i think of....

another thread might be in order for the reverse.... cities/airports that you have visited and connected there....i think my count would be between 50 & 100...

another count could be cities that you have visited, but not connected....
