ITA Matrix Search: http://matrix.itasoftware.com

You can sometimes see flights, fares and detailed fare rules that may not be reflected on an airline's website. Please read the thread for some tips and tricks, screen shots, etc.

A related thread, ITA-Matrix-PowerTools - Userscript for Orbitz/DL/UA/AA/BA/CZ/IB/LA/LH/LX/TK, discusses a user script which is maintained by fellow flyertalk members to enhance the already powerful Matrix of ITA Software by providing new features and booking links.

Additional details and tips on the use of ITA's advanced routing code feature can be found in the following long-standing Mileage Run Discussion threads:

I've learned to make my searches less wide ranging - still using the full force of the advanced coding.

Start with a broad general search before narrowing my criteria in likely direction.

The site is useless right now. What happened in the past week?

Looks like they are aware of an issue:
Notice
Matrix is experiencing a high volume of spurious "results expired" messages. We are investigating and apologize to our users in the meantime.

Right. Sometimes the results are expiring as soon as they post. If the first page contains the info you are looking for, you are good; otherwise there are no guarantees.

Agree. Utterly. Useless. But they have also helpfully inserted that prominent message "Go to Google travel for faster results!"

I was thinking (not seriously) that if are trying to sabotage the site and re-direct traffic to Google proper it is a brilliant master plan.

Seriously.
I was kinda afraid of this the moment I heard that google had bought ita.
Now what incentive to keep the matrix alive and well do they have now ?
None, really, except for the spirit of "Don't be evil" (but that was let go of
as company motto years ago btw) --> gone with the wind...

Just for reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_be_evil

Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence.

Has anyone here tried reporting the issue to either of the ITA accounts here on FlyerTalk? For me the service has functioned adequately, although I haven't used it very much in the past week.

99% of the time I would fully agree with this but incompetence is not normally something I associate with Google. Neglect or not putting enough resources into it might be a more probable explanation.

I remember a few years ago when jumptheshark was bought by TV Guide. Afterwards when you went to jumptheshark there was bare minimal content and it only served as an entry point to direct people to the TV Guide site. Could be a similar thing going on here.

Angry Matrix ITA Software brain in overload!

While researching flights to south Asia I stumbled upon both the Matrix ITA software and this site. I am hoping someone out there can assist me with my dilemma.

After what seems to be hours of playing around on the site I'm at a complete loss on what to do at this point. I am using the "advanced routing codes" option to find the results on two situations I am researching.

First, I would be flying from Los Angeles, California (LAX) to Bangkok, Thailand (BKK) for approximately a month in March. Secondly, I am trying to set up the search parameters to look at stop overs (rather than layover). I would like the opportunity, if I have a stop over somewhere in China for instance, to stay for a few days and sight see. Possibly finding a different route back to Los Angeles on my return flight with a different stop over and sight see at that particular destination for a few days.

The dilemma I am running into is the field which is in the section at the top for both departing from and destination. It requires me to "enter outbound routing codes" and "enter return routing codes". I have tried various airport codes, airline codes and searched the internet with examples. Most all of the examples show using American Airlines (aa) or just plain ol' confusing with the various forms of syntax. If I can get the codes correct then I can manage/understand the syntax's better and utilize them to my advantage. Every code I use does not supply me with flight information and I get an error.

Ughhhh.... I want to pull my hair out <thanks for letting me vent >

Any assistance is greatly appreciated if you are familiar with this website.

Thank you!!!!
Tracy

Welcome to FlyerTalk fractalse. It's good to see new faces here and I hope you will find our forum profitable for your purposes and that you might make yourself at home

This appears to be a KL fare so you may have more luck contacting KLM directly, either online or by phone.

Matrix timeout issue

It looks like timeout is now much quicker to appear and all my search fails.

Am I correct?

If yes, is there a way around it? (another website for instance)

If no, how do you now make complex search (multi-city for starting and ending your trips, oneworld, multi-legs....)?
