If so, which case do you recommend?

I am glad I got a case.

This is the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Kindle-...TS5ZXXKDWMKF3M

A case is definitely helpful to protect the Kindle, and I also find it makes it easier to read.

This is the one I use most often:

It comes in a bunch of colors, but each is a different listing on Amazon, so do a search for "M-Edge GO! Jacket for 2nd Generation Kindle."

Whichever cover you get, I definitely recommend a cover with the Kindle hinge system on it instead of just the elastic corners. The device is much more stable in the cover, yet it's still easy to take on and off.

Before I bought the Kindle, I read somewhere, "imagine the screen scratches as easily as butter." I use the basic amazon case. The plastic hooks make it quick and simple to remove the device when settling in to read.

I agree completely! The case also adds a little thickness and makes it a bit easier to hold, in my opinion. Definitely worth the investment.

I am thinking about getting the M-Edge Latitude Jacket

With the e-Luminator2 Booklight.

Both are available for the same price on the M-Edge site (https://www.buymedge.com/products/kindle2/), but it doesn't offer free shipping so Amazon is $6 cheaper.

Anyone have any experience with the Latitude Jacket? Your reviews of the e-Luminator2 Booklight were very helpful. I really wanted the Go! jacket but it is not compatible with the light.

I would also be worried about the screen scratching. And the clips I got on my basic amazon case are metal, not plastic. ^

Crikey - I hadn't thought about the screen scratching. I've just been tucking it into a pocket of my laptop case. Guess I should check out the case, although I doubt it will arrive before my trip to AMS. Cheers.

I have the Kindle II and the basic Amazon case. I like it. The case is thin and gives me multiple ways to hold the device which is consistent with the way I read (e.g. my grip constantly changes).

I got this one for my wife's Kindle, I liked it because you can stand up the kindle on a desk so you don't have to constantly hold it. It also has storage pockets for metrocards/bus passes (for you commuters).

I have a slip cover case and love it. I didn't want to attach my Kindle to a case that would impact how I hold it.

I have the M-edge for my kindle 2, I wouldn't go anywhere without a case, the screen is better on the 2, actually it is the case that is better, but I wouldn't carry it in a briefcase without a secondary case.

All the cases I looked at seemed to at least double the thickness of the Kindle. I made myself a sleeve from some very thin padding material and some packing tape. It works fine for me.

Have you checked out this one

I've got 2 different cases. The standard Amazon one is better for gym and moving around since it protects more fully. It does add to the thickness and weight though.

The silicone cover gives you impact protection against chipping the surface but doesn't add significantly to thickness of weight. I also rather like the "feel" of the buttons with the cover.
