Isn't even close to release date here. I do have the N96 though. Pretty decent phone although a bit slow.

Slow....? Could you elaborate? Is this because of the user interface or the OS, or are you refering to the recycle time of the camera...?

I had a N95 before this one, and it was a lot faster.
If you read some reviews on the internet about the N96 you will find that navigating threw menu's is rather slow and the applications sometimes are as well. This is mainly due to Nokia putting a smaller processor unit in it. It can be bothersome having to wait a couple seconds while its loading but I don't care so much. The battery life isn't that good as well, it works for about 4-5 days.
That is the only really problem I have encountered with the phone. For the rest it's perfect. The camera makes really good quality pictures. if you want some examples all of the photo's in
this TR are made with it.
The navigation works pretty good as well. though I dont use Nokia's software I use freeware:
Nav4all It doesn't cost a thing and tough the graphics aren't that good it brings you from a to b and it has never let me down.
If you have any other questions please ask.

Did Nokia announce when it's coming out in North America yet?
I don't think it's actually available anywhere at the moment.

The N97's processor hasn't been confirmed yet. It will be an ARM11 though, according to statements made by some Nokia product team members.
The N95 runs a 332 MHz ARM11, but is dual core (the baseband has its own CPU). The N96 runs a 264 MHz ARM9 and is also dual core. The E71 and 5800 run 369 MHz ARM11s, but are single core.
What all that means is, who knows...

It'll almost certainly go to Europe and Asia first.
Nokia have said nothing beyond Q2, meaning June.

Nobody will know the exact cost until it is released... as it gets closer no doubt some companies will try to milk early adopters though.
What is attracting you to the N97 anyway?
