only phones sold through operators, with associated discounts with that operator will be locked. NAM phones sold through NOkia USA will not be locked. I mean - who would they lock them to???

Wirelessly posted (Palm TX: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D050; Blazer/4.3) 16;320x448)

The below from Howardforums...

Most eBay sellers will get ''Made by Nokia'' Asia Pacific version. N97-1 N97 nam most probably will be made in China. All the videos I've seen so far are N97-1 which is not nam and it's Made in Finland!
Any comments....??

I'm planning to buy one because the phone seems very handy and advanced. It looks the perfect phone to go travelling. It has GPS, gaming, TV and WLAN Connectivity. I'm sure that I will buy that phone this year.

SE Asia prices seem to be the lowest, followed by the US prices.... Europe seems highway robbery with prices north of 550 Euros...

The first run usually takes place in their own Finland factory - often with more hand work, and closer inspection of the process. Diehard Nokia fans prefer the made in Finland models, but the differences are so minute that I'd ignore that.

After the first run, they start production in the outsourced plants around the world.

I never actually made it to Salo, which is where the Nokia plant is located. I've heard the Nokia plant more or less is the town, though.

Anyway, the N97. There are three variants:

- RM-505 Global. WCDMA, HSDPA (Cat 6 max.3.6 Mbps) 900/1900/2100 and EGSM 850/900/1800/1900 + WLAN

- RM-506 China. EGSM 850/900/1800/1900

- RM-507 Americas. WCDMA, HSDPA (Cat 6 max.3.6 Mbps) 850/1900/2100 and EGSM 850/900/1800/1900 + WLAN

I'd assume the Nokia USA site would sell the RM-507. A quick *#0000# on the phone screen would show it.

ETA: The tech specs on the Nokia USA site do indeed show it as the RM-507.
