Blackberry Software Upgrade = Power Suck?
Search isn't working, so forgive me if this has already been covered.
At Blackberry's urging, I downloaded the latest Blackberry software upgrade last week to my Curve 8310. Frankly I don't think the device can handle it. I get long hourglass-twirling "freezes" of up to 5-8 minutes during which the phone grinds away and will not take incoming calls. Worst of all, the thing used to last up to four days without a charge, given moderate use, and now will barely last twelve hours.
Anyone else experience this problem? Is there any way to downgrade to the slimmer, more efficient OS I used to have?
Aargh.

If you're talking about the 4.5 OS upgrade from AT&T, I did the upgrade and it made everything about the phone better.
Try shutting everything down, pulling your battery for a minute or so, and then putting it back together and turning it on again. I'm thinking there's some problem with your OS upgrade because mine went great on my 8310.
24 hours after trying the full reboot jwrogers recommended, I can report limited success. Battery power is at 55% after 18 hours uptime; before, it would have been dead by now. And I'm not getting the long hourglass-twirl freeze periods I was getting before. So it's still consuming more power than in the pre-upgrade days, but not as much more.
Some users on Blackberry forums elsewhere say sticking the device in its magnet-equipped leather pouch accelerates battery drain.

Update: With light use, my upgraded Curve runs from 100% down to zilch in less than 18 hours. It's consuming power at 3X / 4X the pre-upgrade rate. Very disappointing.

do you have bluetooth enabled all the time? what HH OS version are you using? (Press ALT + CAPS + H) and list the App version.
- As mentioned before, make sure you don't have Bluetooth on when you don't need it.
- Make sure you're not running apps in the background.
- Do a battery pull (meaning, with the unit on, take out the battery for about 10 seconds, then put it back in and let it reboot) after upgrading. Heck, it's good to do it sporadically anyway.
I upgraded my Storm last week and had to do a pair of battery pulls to fix a couple of issues (that haven't reoccurred).

The OS is 4.5.0.110. Yes, I have Bluetooth cooking all the time, and I'll close it and see if that's a factor (although it never was before). I did do the battery pull / full reboot on jwrogers' advice; it had a positive effect for a couple of days, but it's gone. As for apps running in the background and sapping power, that sure seems like the logical culprit, but I don't think it's the case here -- I take care to close everything.

Unfortunately, the way to combat this is effective - but drastic and extremely time consuming. Backup the device, wipe it, and then do a line-item restore. When you run into a problem, you know what you need not to restore, but then you need to wipe the device again, and restore everything but the problem cache.

If pulling the battery solved the problem for a bit then you've likely got an app that isn't closing when you close it and it is sapping the battery. You can list the apps running clicking alt-escape according to this thread on crackberry. Are they really all closed?
