p.s. power outlet problem with laptop

Hey all:

I use an igo everywhere130 universal laptop power adapter for traveling, and have been for sometime. Used it on UAL intl and ps flights without incident.

Last week in Y however, i found that my T60 would 'draw too much power' apparently from the seat outlet, and trip the seat's circuit protection. When I throttled down the power settings (low screen brightness, slower CPU speed) it worked fine.

Two different flights (and seats) exhibited same behavior. Other ppl's laptops including other Thinkpads worked.

Any chance that UAL throttled down the electricity output to the outlets?

The ports are only designed for 75W, so your 130W adapter could easily trip them if the computer is drawing enough (perhaps charging the battery while also using it?).

Problem is PS is not empower but a 75w version of a regular plug.
One solution is to plug it in and pull out the battery, that seems to work.

Ahhh .. my lack of knowledge ... having not the pleasure of a p.s. flight (no travel to JFK and originating from SFO)

Yes pulling the battery will reduce the power drain (but not recharge the battery ). Guess the battery recharge would need to wait til when you are not using the laptop.

Simply remove the battery from the computer and then connect to the power outlet.
