2. when you said the adapter tip to enable the use of their new USB tips, does that mean the Kensington terminates in a normal USB female connection (after which you attach normal USB charge cables)?
Regards,
Marcus
I emailed Kensington, and they told me last week, that there is no usb tip for the 70w/120w range of chargers ??
They don't know their own stuff, then- I've definately seen a USB1 sold in a 120W auto/air charger pack.
Well I can't say I've seen a USB Type A female on a Kensington myself (ironicaly I also just contacted them yesterday asking the question), but it did occur to me, would this work:
M16 or M15 tip, then http://www.buyextras.com/usbfetomib5f.html?
Kensington short lead/cable fix/solution/work around
Just a note, I've seen a few posts here asking about European or other Kensington leads. And I've also seen a few posts all over the net complaining about how short the power leads on the Kensingtons.
I came across this by accident when I happened to be packing my Kensington up, and also my camera charger + lead.
As my camera charger requires a figure of 8 input power cable, I couldn't help but notice that the prongs on the figure of 8 input power seemed identical size to the Kensington's 2 prong input power - just that Kensington have change the outer mold (surrounding the 2 prongs) to the familiar Kensington propietary cable connect, and also they've inserted a plastic split between the 2 prongs.
However they mold itself is actually larger than the standard figure of 8 power cable mold and other than the plastic split a figure of 8 power cable should fit in it.
If you cut down the middle of the figure of 8 mold to accomodate the plastic Kensington split, the power cable actually fits into the Kensington. Voila!
So now you're free to use whatever input power cable you wish to the Kensington. Also it's not just a loose fit, it's a proper tight fit as you would have used the figure of 8 power cable for anything else.
Not sure if I've managed to explain the above properly without pictures.
Also I've noted on other forums (and for those concerned), the suggestion that Kensington deliberately made their input power cables extremely short for heat dissipation. Although I'm not a frequent user of my Kensington, I do believe it does emit some heat, and there may be truth to this.
However I also noticed on the design of the unit, the main heat vents appear to be on the 'bottom' of the unit. By design one would put it with the nice flat Kensington 70W/120W print surface up with heat vented side face down. But in practice (and if one now, does use normal length input cables), it would appear to help if you put it Kensington 70/120W label face down, with hent vents facing up. Or at least anecdotally this is what I think I've found.
Hope this helps someone, as I was finding the supplied short input power cables a bit trying.
PS: let me know if above is not clear and I'll try and figure out a way of posting pics.
PPS: Sorry for the wordy subject line, I'm hoping when people search engine for a fix for the short cable issue, this thread will get picked up.
I would need Smart tip N19 for my new Dell Latitude E. Every other tips that come standard with the charger are available (except for USB and ipod). I also have the Motorola pack if anyone's interested.
I can also buy N19 from someone if trade is uninteresting. Make me a price shipped to Canada.

Well just as a follow up, I too received email back from their support saying that sorry no USB tip is available (the email itself being very lengthy, not very well text formatted, all in one cover everything you could possibly have any questions about their products one, with a one line addition at the top answering that a USB tip isn't available).
The also omitted to answer my question about where Smartips could be purchased, but within the email it did provide a link for tip requests (which is only limited to notebook tips).
Failing a USB1 tip being available, the M15/M16 tip + usb gender changer adapter might have to be the way forward (at least for us non-US people / perhaps the Kensington are more aware about the USB tip?).
My N19B tip seems to have died. I have two Kensington 120W adapters. I used my newer Dpter with N19B a few days ago and it worked fine. When I tried it Gin yesterday it would simply not charge my Dell Lattitude D620. The laptop didn't see the charger at all.
The older N19 tip works with my newer adapter, but I'd rather have a spare now that the other tip died unexpectedly. The old adapter seems to work too. I don't know if there are any ill effects from using the old tip on the new adapter.
On the USB tip:
I had an older 120W adapter. I was having problems using it on a plane and Kensington sent me a new 120W adapter. The adapters look pretty similar, but the new one included a USB1 tip. It looks like the USB connection you see on a computer or laptop so you can plug a standard USB cable into it. I have the tip in my hands so it definitely exists.

Just wondering if the tip is marked USB1 or USB1 B m8.
I have the N19, and need an N29. You mention an N29B - hate to say I'm not up on these things, so will that work with the power supply the N19 came with? If so, let me know. Regardless, the N19 is yours since I have no use for it.
