I'm looking for a possibility to charge my (mini-USB-)devices with the Kensington 33197.
Would it be possible to plug a female USB connector into the USB1 tip to charge my HTC smartphone, GPS receiver etc. (all standard mini-USB)?
Unfortunately I do not find any shop that sells the USB1 and Kensington does not want to send it to me, because it would not work with my smartphone (that's what they say about 95% of the products where the tips in fact do work).
Tell them you had just bought your charger, provide your serial number and phone number, then ask for an M15 tip.
And, yes, you can plug in USB charged devices into the USB1. In order to daisy chain multiple devices at the same time, you can use the Dual charging cable, but you can't use the newer USB1B, because it would probably draw too much power from the second, higher-voltage plug intended for laptops.
(I don't work for them, this is just my experience.)
Howdy all,
Just got my HP HDX18 Laptop (cue angels siging) and need an N30 tip for this beast.
I have quite a few left over from my past laptops, let me know if you have an N30 to trade or need one of these:
Just a side note: the NxxB tips have another stub in them which means you can only use the supplied (long cable), and NOT the windup cable, which does not have the notch to accomodate B tips.
Sigh, Kensington. And where is the ∂嵘 iPhone 3G tip???

Yeah, but a hot X-Acto knife takes care of that easily enough.

The one I have for the iPod Touch (and classic iPod) (J3) works OK; you can't use that?
Charging is not supported with this accessory.
I *might* try hot-knife X-acto-ing on Lenovo's L10a tip though. But I prefer someone with low-risk equipment investment (i.e., richer than me) and more technical wherewithal and understanding to try it first.
My problem with the support is, that the support of US Kensington would send me all the tips I wanted to have - but only to an US shipping address (I do not have). The European support is much more wearisome.

I'm confused. Which accessory? I have the "flat" 120W charger (old-style that doesn't take "B" tips ordinarily), the wind-up power cable and the Y-adapter. I've used that combination (after X-Actoing the bump) and have charged both my HP DV9000 notebook and my iPod touch at the same time.

There's no risk involved at all, the bump is a little thing you really could do with a (cold) steak knife.

That's weird. Are you sure you registered on their support site, and got an East Indian-name rep.?
The J3 tip does not charge the iPhone 3G, alas. The risk I was talking about was trying the Lenovo tip which is not designed to work at all with the Kensington system (has bumps in totally different places, the pins and connector shapes are the same, and Lenovo even carries a similar dual adapter), though it's clear that Kensington/ACCO probably manufactured it.
I'm surprised there's not a bigger user base for this device; it's really cheap to get ahold of, the support (I got) was pretty satisfactory, and getting a USB1 tip means you can charge practically anything. You can also modify your MagSafe connector (boo, Apple) to work with it (use mikegyver.com's instructions).
iGo was OK, but they are a tad bulkier and seemed to me charged a bit slower (could be my perception); they do have A LOT more tips (including an iPhone 3G version released immediately). The Kensington flaws lies with its giant connector cable. I wish their windup version was a tad smaller; physically it takes just about the same amount of space as the wound-up original one. I also wish their adapter was half as small (yes, it's flat) and had Apple-style plugs.
Kensington doesn't list my notebook on their tip finder. I have an HP tx2510 touchscreen tablet. The N9B tip is recommended for all HP but fits REALLY tight and doesnt seem to initiate charging. I think its not in all the way but I'm afraid to force in in any further for fear of damaging the power input jack or getting it stuck. The factory AC adapter fits easily.
They have big-company-syndrome: no one is home to fix the small issues, or come up with direct customer feedback (i.e., producing tips as the market moves). You'd think they'd have someone in marketing assessing trends and allowed a budget to promote their items (Flip video, netbooks (hello!), exclusive licensing with Apple (read: iPhone and MacBook line), etc.)
At some point during my research, there was a chart with all the ID and OD specs (inner and outer diameter) for what seems like the SmartTips before they were branded for Kensington (?); I'm sorry that I can't find it.
