As mentioned upthread, Orange, depending on how you define "cheap."
Do any of those posts include pricing or other terms for data? Apologies if I missed something, but the only pricing info I saw was that a SIM costs €15 and links to the Orange web site (which is in French).
How much is data per day or per mb? (I have an unlocked GSM phone, although not European 3G.)

The Orange France website is in French? What were you expecting it to be in, Hungarian? The VZW website is in English, after all.

The website at http:www.orange.fr has pages and pages of data which I could not possibly devote the time to translate. (Maybe translate.google.com would be enough.)
The start page with information on prepaid cellphone service is here and there are numerous variables and conditions including a contract.
I can't find any no contract phone data plans on their site. The USB offer you mention is the closest I can find.
translate.google.com does a nice job, btw.
Find someone who speaks French and have him or her call Orange Mobicarte (prepaid service) Customer Service at 011 33 6 07 62 64 64.
(Of course, you can also try this yourself and ask if the person you get speaks English. If he or she does, please pick the next Mega Millions numbers for me because you are very lucky. )
Be advised that this call is charged at the rates for calling a cell phone in France which are much higher than calling a landline. Also, even if you are on hold, the meter is still running.

There's a live chat option on the Orange site which is free and works well if you speak French; if not, one could always ask if they speak English (you never know!).
Given that no one posting in this thread, or as far as I can find with google anyone else on the internet who has posted regarding Orange, has found (1) a prepaid phone data plan on Orange, (2) for which there is pricing information and (3) that can actually be used by a visitor, I believe I'll pass on Orange.
Many people have posted questions regarding data in France, which usually leads to at least some answers.
The closest I've found is someone on another forum who thought he found a prepaid plan, but then found he could not actually get it when he was in Paris.
Tmobile UK or Vodaphone may be the best alternatives.

That's consistent with what I've found when looking at the French provider sites. France has some great things to offer but inexpensive prepaid data (and especially prepaid data plans for nonresidents) is not one of them, as far as I can tell.

For France have you looked at www.callineurope.com. It is not a prepaid account. I have not used them. Just have heard about them. They have data plans and calling plans. This is just another option. I think they have a annual fee. Look at the T&C carefully.

I mentioned that in Post #248 in this thread but I have not noticed any reports of anyone using it.
