I have exactly the same situation: I'm about to fly UA longhaul and would love to know what product to use to charge my 3G using the Empower socket.

I have only an iTouch, but this is really the same as the iPhone, just does not have a phone bit. I have yet to be able to charge it on a plane - even though I have the empower converter (I have yet to find one to that actually works on a long haul flight.) I actually use my battery charger from my video ipod
http://www.newertech.com/products/ipodacc.php
which works wonderfully - the only problem is that the phone jack on the iTouch is on the bottom and so is the charging dock part, so you cant use and listen at the same time - so what I do is put it on charge when the meal is served.

I fly mostly AA, which has regular cig lighter plugs. No problems whatsoever. The inverter has it's own fan, so it keeps itself relatively cool. I find it helpful that it also has a USB charging port, too.

(I find it annoying to have to deal with tips, so I prefer just having a regular A/C jack to plug into.)
I agree with you and would love this product except I find that using it with my Dell 620 often causes it to stop working after 10 minutes or so, and I need to keep un- and then re-plugging it in. Very frustrating.

Hi all

I just switched from a Dell Latitude D410 to a Dell Latitude E6400 at work. I have an Kensington 120W adapter which I have used with the D410 for a couple of years.

However when I tried to connect the Kensington to it, initially seemed to work, then when I had to reboot I was prompted with a Black screen BIOS type message saying I needed to switch to a Dell 90W power adapter.

Is there any way I can use the Kensington in the future? Is it just a smarttip issue?

Cheers

S

UA 837 Power

Hi,

Flying UA837 in first from NRT to BKK in a few weeks. The plane originates SFO. Does anyone know if UA has upgraded the 777s used on this route to standard power plugs, or is it still empower?

Thanks.

I've been told that my flight with Cathay Pacific (to Hong Kong, via 777-300ER) will not require any special plug/prong. I can just plugin my 85W MacBook Pro adapter straight to the outlet that's on the seats.

Is that true?

If that one has the new seats, yup... well, I saw the regular outlets, but slept through the flight so I can't say if they're live.

The old Y seats didn't have any power outlets that I recall; the old J seats had the empower sockets.

According to that, seems that I can just plug in my macbook pro's adapter straight to the outlet. Am I right?

If it's on the new seating configuration, yes.

I think the 773s all came online with the new configuration, but I'm not 100% on that. On my last flights with them, the A330 BKK-HKG was older style seating, while the 747 was the new configuration - I'm not sure if they're all updated or still updating.

You might double-check on the Cathay/Asiamiles forum as I remember quite a few threads about the rollout of the new seats/configuration.

Hmm, dug up this old thread. Had trouble on my United flight recently with my iGo Everywhere 130. It works for AC and in the car, but did not work on the flight, the socket was perfectly fine, my seatmate tried his adapter. According to this post, it says UA ports do not provide enough power for the adapter. Anyone has similar experiences? Maybe I should downgrade to everywhere 85, anyone had their adapter work for UA?

Anybody know what the difference is between the Igo Everywhere 130 vs Max?

Then has iGo discontinued the 130 or what as its been sold out for a while on there site and I have a up coming series of trips that i would like to get this so that i dont have to haul the invertor brick i have currently as the dual power feature is one that i need to top off my phone and some other devices at cruise so i can hit the ground running

Does anyone know if you can use the Tumi travel adapter set with another company's tips? The Tumi set is awesome, but doesn't have one for the Blackjack II.

Any ideas?

Just bought a 75 watt inverter with cigarette lighter plug. Will this work of DL and AA?

AA has cig plugs on many of their domestic planes where there is power so it should work on those. Not sure about the international config planes.

DL does not use cig plugs; they either have 110V outlets or emPower plugs, depending on the plane.

Right, this summer will be on AA 777s, 767, 757 and MD-80s to get around the US on honeymoon, and want to take a portable DVD player on board.

I'm a bit clueless when it comes to all this, so can someone let me know in as basic terms as possible what I'll need? They obviously have either AC or DC ports on these planes and we're already allocated into the correct seats thanks to seatguru.

Thanks in advance.
