Suggestions on software for picking single frames from video

I have some .avi files and want to save seperate frames as .jpg or similar ...

what software (pref freeware or trial) is recommended ??

Actually; if you use WindowsXP just open Windows Movie maker and use the "Take Picture From Preview" option under "Clip". It'll then save it as a JPG for you.

The problem with WMV is that i tlikes to "process" your movie and sits there doing it forever. grab a trial of Adobe Premiere from adobe.com and drag your media onto the timeline and goto file>export and you can dump frames as jpegs
