Worked great, thanks NM! It's on there for all to view. Can I assume that somebody would PM me if there was an issue with this? Let's see the numbers grow - 429, with Birdstrike showing some dominance!

Note to the FT Guys
To the now 11 people signed up on the FT Team totalling 27 computers, thanks for your participation. It's great to see MapleLeaf & Roundtheworld & other new additions to our group. I'd hoped, on a parallel thread, to hit a home run with some network administrators or those who controlled lots of computers (PercussionKing, you got me started on this...!). That hasn't happened yet, but all it takes is 1. I'm still waiting...
So, approaching 500 units, and yes, in the top 5% of teams, how do we take it to the next level? As with any group, the climbing to the higher levels will get steeper & harder. Incremental change will not come so easily as it did in October. To really develop to the level I envision as a Flyertalk community, we need to get far more than 11 people involved. How do we get there? How big is the FT community? Tens of thousands, and obviously all with at least one computer?! We have not even scratched the surface! Of even more potential, it's a safe assumption that the average business demographic of our community is a mid to upper level manager, business owner, entrepeneur, and these people are - simply put- decision makers. How do we tap that set of resources? Is it time, if further growth is really of interest to the group, to push this past our own personal computer commitments and influence groups that we can (and their precious processing time!)? Give this some serious thought. Maybe we're just good with growing a person or two every few weeks, and seeing that our first name basis group is doing fine. We are. Yet if you see the potential for so much more, how do we get there from here?
It's time to share ideas on how to really take this up a notch. Your thought please!
I know FTers use hotel or other computers when they travel. If possible, install this program on computers around the world, leaving footprints of where you've been. The web page (folding.stanford.edu) and team number (39124) are quick to find in Post #1.

Hmm, that could work. Have seen many computers that might qualify, some seem like they are like hot tubs - you never quite know what's been in 'em, and others get cleaned regularly! Regardless, what's the risk? I'll try it - thanks for the idea!
Oh, and welcome to FT teammember #12, Blindfaith. So you hail from Idaho? Cannot imagine the connections you must be used to.

SuiJuris??
Hey, just saw we added another contributor - SuiJuris?? Did a search here & came up empty, so welcome oh anonymous one. And I'm not sure I an identify "Shell_nye" with anyone on this post. Anyone want to claim the credit? And has anyone tried the hotel computer idea of a few posts ago? I'm not travelling until January, so haven't yet.
Have a great holiday season if it gets too crazy to keep in touch - but keep those computers running!

Howdy! That'd be me!
I've got a Pentium M running almost 24/7 at home. Unfortunately, they've finally locked our work laptops down pretty good, so that's a no go. On the other hand, I'll be visiting the family next week for Christmas and will oh-so-slyly set this up on a couple more computers.
As a sidenote, I do find that folding causes my computer to run hotter than normal, and it eats up a ton of battery, so I won't be able to leave it on when I'm travelling.
Has anyone tried installing the software on a USB thumb drive? Can you just copy files to the desktop and run the progrm from there? No security settings should prevent you from running it from the desktop.

Happy Holidays!
I believe that, by default, the program suspends itself when it detects you are running on battery power. At least it does on my Thinkpad.

Hey, who wants to suspend F@H?? Crunch often, crunch hard. Think of it as a way to supplement your heating system during winter. Over here, its peak of summer so it means my AC is working a little harder to compensate for the hotter operation of my Thinkpad.
Also noticed that we seem to have lots some folders. NickW and elCheapoDeluxe have not completed work uints for a few weeks. In fact, tlglenn is about to overtake NickW into the number 4 position. I had better get that old Thinkpad T21 going again to try to stay ahead! No chance of catching birdstrike and WinkyDink using my single Thinkpad T41 cruncher.

Thanks for the welcome! The Blindfaith team has been working on folding for a few years for Cornell Big Red team (husband's alma mater), but I do think my previous employer has dumped the program off of all but one of their computers. I was the computer gal, so it was way too easy to download the software on their PCs. Maybe when I do a quick consulting gig there to do the year end bookkeeping, I will reinstall! They won't know what hit 'em!
I'm in Washington, across the river from LWS (Idaho). The flyertalk PC I use at home is unfortunately on dial up (but luckily being inside city limits I'm usually at 49.2k+, unlike the poor folks out in the woods and farm land still dialing in at 14k), but we had a fantastic high speed wireless connection at my former job. I wish I could justify the cost at home, but with my current state of consulting (read: happily on unemployment until April 2005), it'll wait.
Now that I realize the connection question could actually apply to flying out of a small airport like LWS, those connections suck even more than my dial up speed. Currently Horizon connections to SEA or BOI, but apparently in January we'll have Delta connection to SLC. I love flying out of LWS since we only have to get to the airport 45 minutes in advance and it is a 5 minute drive and free parking (and Horizon has free beer and wine for all...), but price-wise we also go out of GEG and PSC when LWS is robbery.

I also found that Mr blindfaith's new laptop ran so much hotter, even while on AC (which is most of the time), his Toshiba was shutting down by itself really often, and in the middle of work, so I disabled the program, and it hasn't shut down on its own since. Before he got the Toshiba I was running an old Compaq Armada and my current PC on our home network, and that old workhorse laptop never shut down for anything...I'd have it among the blankets in bed watching DVDs and it would be ok. I loved that laptop.
We've been supporters of this folding project for quite some time. We've got a niece with a terminal heriditary disease (Tay-Sachs), and this is a project my son will again be taking to his school council, for permission to download the software onto their 24 computer lab PCs. We were shot down last year due to a computer download paranoia issue, but he'll bring it up again after the holidays, and this time I will be there with him to address the PC concerns. Wish us luck.

There's two options I use on my Pentium M notebook with folding.
First, I set the folding cpu usage to 92%. With 100% fans were running that don't normally run. I found that running it at 92% those fans never kick in, and though it runs warm, it doesn't run too hot. 92% is a maximum. It always leaves 8% idle time even if other stuff is running, at least from my observations. You'll fold a bit slower, but your notebook won't get as hot. Adjust that number to something you're comfortable with and that doesn't feel too hot.
Second, there's an option so it won't run when you're on battery power. You definitely want to turn off folding when you're on battery power.
Both of these are under the advanced options. If you run the client with -configonly you can view/update the settings. Type 'yes' when it asks about changing advanced settings so you can see them all.
If you have it running as a service, stop the service, then change the settings by running the client from the folding directory with -configonly and then restart the service. If you're using the graphical client, you can just change the options from within the program.
Admittedly, I assume these options also exist in the graphical client. I only run the console client as a service on windows boxes.
I also have another laptop here that's based on the Pentium 4M (not to be confused with the Pentium M). I won't fold on that at all. It simply gets too hot when running f@h.
Code:
Change advanced options (yes/no) [no]? yes
Core Priority (idle/low) [idle]?
CPU usage requested (5-100) [92]?
Disable highly optimized assembly code (no/yes) [no]?
Pause if battery power is being used (useful for laptops) (no/yes) [yes]?
