Travel routers amongst the most insecure
I hope no one here counts on their travel routers for security. It is more about the convenience (and possible cost savings of) configure-once to connect multiple devices. Anyone who is security-aware should know that you need defense in layers, so don't rely on just one (Internet of) Thing to stay safe.

Using a travel router still is light-years more secure than using public open WiFi.
Much of this comes down to probabilities and risk.
For the average business traveler, just about any travel router will be secure enough.
Would I rely upon a travel router at a hotel hosting DefCon? No. Then again, I wouldn't be taking my personal or business laptops to DefCon, only a throwaway running some form of *nix.
