Apple Recognizes How Blue Light Interferes with Sleep - and Addresses it in New iOS
I've written about the problem of blue light and sleep from smartphones and tablets for almost almost a decade (in conjunction with my research on Information Overload when I was at the think tank).
This is of particular importance to travelers who have to adjust to new time zones (a group many of us here fall into).
I'm really pleased to announce that Apple is not only recognizing the issue but providing what appears to be a very easy solution that should address at least part of the problem.
Essentially:

Apparently, some Apple employees have been losing sleep over the impact of using an iPhone or iPad before going to bed at night. The result is a feature called Night Shift, which, using your iPhone or iPad’s clock and geolocation information, shifts the display to warmer colors in the evening, reducing the amount of blue light emitted from the device. Blue light can have a negative impact on sleep by disrupting the body’s circadian rhythm.
The display returns to its regular settings in the morning....

I think everyone has recognized it for quite some time. Amazon released it in an OS earlier, but I would be surprised if Apple saw it in Amazon's release in December and has it ready for implementation in the next release - both have probably had it in process for a while.
Where's Android? I see some apps, but nothing about putting it into the OS.

I'd never heard of this issue. And indeed often use my iPhone before going to bed. However I don't have sleep problems other than the usual jet lag when I fly east or west.
