I think the footprint and screen size of the '14 Moto X is pretty excellent, so seeing that size abandoned is disappointing... the Moto X Play (which will end up being the basis of some Droid variant for Verizon in the US if I had to guess) with a 5.2" screen would have been the kind of phone I would have considered replacing my '14 Moto X with. With the Nexus 6 already in their portfolio, I just don't see the need for two (three counting the Play) large-screen phones while the only mid-size (the G) is just a bit too entry-level. A $299 5.2" Moto X Play would really be my Goldilocks, and I'd be perfectly happy with the Snapdragon 611 and 2gb of RAM.

I'm disappointed it isn't available to buy soon - they showed with the Nexus 6 that they can't handle high demand, so I hope they have the launch of the new one well prepared.

Others, like Samsung announce a device, and have it available worldwide in a week or two. I guess that is the upside of making your own chips and displays.

In their defense, I suspect that is Google's responsibility for ordering far too few devices for launch day. They didn't seem to have issues supplying 2013 or 2014 Moto X's, which have in all likelihood outsold Nexus 6 by an order of magnitude or two.
