Surface 3 - Good deal at PC World (UK)

The Surface 3 is released on 7th May in the UK. PC World have a pre-order offer of £529 for a 128GB model, including a keyboard. So, a saving of £80. According to the sales guy, the price will revert to normal from the 7th.

I ordered mine today

It's actually a really really good deal. Tempting. They have the deal available online so its not hard to escape this. Will be popping into a local store today to see how it is and whether it would be able to fit in to my needs.

Im so caught up in Apple that I solely use their devices but as of lately, the Surface does look very nice - and so does the upcoming Windows 10 which will be a free upgrade to this deal.

Decisions, decisions.

Yep - you also get one year of Office 365. Not really much use to me as I already subscribe to the 5 user home edition.

There is one thing puzzling me... In one of the stores, the keyboard had a loop to store a pen. In other stores, this was missing. This could be the deciding factor in whether I also buy a pen

I think the pen is a must - looks slick in the videos that ive seen thus far on it.

Is it replacting a laptop or really an addition to one of your machines?

The loop is sold separately but is pretty cheap (in the US it is under $5.00)

(EDIT: the surface 3 pro has the pen and storage included while the surface 3 is all al la carte)

I've got a MacBook Pro 15" for development work. This is something extra that I'll take when I don't want to carry the MacBook around.

Thank you. I've just ordered.

Edit: One thing that's not entirely clear..... Which version of the keyboard cover you're actually getting!

. It could be the cover for the older Surface. It will work, but the fit may not be exact. I suppose I'd better order myself a Surface pen.

Anyone know if the keyboard for the Surface Pro 3 will work on this Surface 3 device - it has backlit keys for the pro model so wondering if its possible to mix and match... handy for flights when the cabin lights are switched off

Yes - I read a review that it will work, but just cover a larger area.

However... the Surface 3 keyboard also has backlit keys.

I picked mine up today, and I've spent all afternoon setting it up and upgrading to Windows 10 Preview. There seem to be a few display driver issues, but that's to be expected with the beta test.

One issue I have is that the trackpad on the keyboard is awful. I actually think there may be something wrong with it. It's rattles, and seems quite loose. It's very difficult to do the 2 finger scroll. I think I'll go back to PC World tomorrow, and test the display model again (I didn't notice any issues when I was testing it out).

The keyboard itself is very nice - I'm typing this on it!

I just picked one up this evening. Still getting everything set up, but I think that this will be able to handle the light computing work I need to do on the road. I am pretty happy with the keyboard thus far.

Downgraded back to W8.1... Windows 10 Preview was just not working.

I've since read a comment from Microsoft saying don't install the W10 Preview, as there are no chipset drivers as yet.

I wish I'd read that beforehand
