Hi everyone, this might be a silly question given that I live in the US, but a friend from Canada on a Rogers plan just booked a last minute flight to the US and is arriving tonight to visit the San Diego and Los Angeles areas for around 7 days. He has his phone unlocked, but would like a US SIM card when he arrives.
I was thinking of getting him an AT&T SIM card - where could I go to get this for him? I didn't have time to read through everything. I don't need a prepaid phone since he already has his own device. Would Best Buy, Target or Walmart have this? I only saw recs to buy a prepaid phone at those retailers.
Looks like I need to buy the SIM card and a plan too. Sorry if these are silly questions! What do I need to do? Thanks so much in advance!

Robbers is offering their customers US roaming at $5/day which might make more sense for such a short period? He will get all his Canadian calls and SMS while in the US.

Truphone still a good option IMO
Too late for this trip but with an unlocked phone, Truphone is a great deal for the occasional user. Bought my first Truphone sim last Xmas. No time limit to top up, just use it once every 3 months minimum to keep phone number active. Works everywhere. In USA, I am paying 9˘ per minute. Not bad considering I have no costly recurringb topup to keep card active.

Is Ptel worth it, in my case?
I live outside of USA and we have local stores here that sell Ptel nano SIM. I can get the SIM for USD 12 and I'll get the $30 unlimited plan.
I'll be in USA for 17 days and my main use would be Data, I don't care about International call/sms. I just need Data for Email/GPS/WhatsApp/Skype.

I updated the wiki because Sprint actually uses LTE bands 25, 26 and 41, not band 2. Wikipedia does say that they use band 2 as well but they provide no citation for that and I haven't been able to find anything online about it. Is it because band 2 is a subset of 25 (source)?

About T-Mobile plan...
$30/month 100 Minutes Airtime, Unlimited Text, 5GB of High Speed data (LTE, HSDPA+) then throttled to "2G" speeds. Includes International texting at no charge to select countries Must be activated on-line, or purchased from Wal-Mart
So, the text says must activate online OR purchase from Walmart. I won't have any Internet connection (hence I'm buying this chip), does the Walmart chip (this one, right?) have "offline" activation?
I thought the Walmart option was like "get it, pay the cashier, put on the phone and done", is it correct?

Prepaid/temporary SIM for four-week US travel
I would be most grateful for some advice. I have read through the wiki and the sticky but I'm not sure if my questions are answered there.
I am traveling to the US for four weeks from mid-August. I have an iPhone 5 (which I believe is 'locked' with my current UK provider) with a micro-SIM card. My travel partner has a Nokia 'dumb phone' with the regular big SIM card.
We would love to have access to a local US number whilst in the country but don't know how to go about getting it. Is there an easy way to get a PAYG SIM card somehow?
Having a large number of call-minutes (~500) and say around 100MB of data (if the smartphone is the best option) would be ideal.
Any and all help is much appreciated, many thanks.

I would be most grateful for some advice. I have read through the wiki and the sticky but I'm not sure if my questions are answered there.

2. Both of these devices would need to be unlocked in order to use a foreign carrier's sim card in the U.S. or elsewhere

Which prepaid SIM offer is best for unlocked iphone 4s bought in Europe?
Traveling by car from Chicago to Seattle for 25 days. Visiting the main parks on the way, not necessarily following the main highways as we're on holiday.
Use of SIM will be to book/change bookings along the way, emergencies (pray no need), receive a few calls from back home, send and receive sms messages with Canada & Europe.
What would be your suggestions for the better coverage and cost?

Going back to Ultra Mobile - anyone have experience with them?
Does anyone know if I can order a SIM online from Amazon ( ) and just activate it whenever? Further, could I activate it without access to a phone? This would enable me to order online, deliver internationally, and then when flying, activate it from the airport and pick a plan there - and then have a SIM for the moment I land.
