The sad thing is, here's a guy who is probably very responsible and is about to have his life ruined for a simple innocuous mistake.

Welcome to the new America.

Welcome to the new America.
It's been the case for a long, long time that there's zero tolerance for not following the gun laws. If not for that pesky constitution, guns would be banned outright, so lawmakers do what they can to make it difficult. All gun owners know (or should know) that there is no such thing as a small mistake.

Except of course when its (say) NY cops not respecting federal gun laws, and harassing law-abiding citizens transiting NY airports....there's total tolerance for not following gun laws when the boot is on that foot.

Correct, I should have been more specific!

I question the use of the word "stash".

When Mr. Taker Park and I go shooting we tend to take a variety of firearms as we are more than likely to spend the whole day at the range.

Ah yes, msulims and the race card. That was predictable.

anyone not by LAX , this is the security
there is an EZ-Up tent next to the entrance road ,
with 3-4 LAPD (maybe Airport Police) , and not in SWAT uniforms.

MAYBE they pull a car-truck over every 5 minutes or so,
they do NOT stop every car , in fact barely look at you ,

they are also not there 24/7

This guy was stupid to bring that many guns anywhere near an airport,
and just unlucky to be stopped.

But the cops get a few brownie points ,
the TV gets a "news" story to put in between the commercials ,
And America is a little safe tonight

He was stupid to have one loaded if that is illegal. (And I really have no idea what the exact rules are or what the actual charge is.)

Other than that the guy was completely legal. Why shouldn't he have brought the guns with him on his way to the range?

Hmm.

1) Man + Gun(s) never attempted to enter a secure zone
2) No, the general airport area is NOT a secure zone
3) A Sgt. is quoted as saying the man made a bad decision. Total Bollocks!
4) Check the vehicles parked at any parking lot/garage of any american airport and if you come up with less than one fire arm per 25 cars, I'd be very surprised (make it 1 per 10 for DFW).

You may be wrong (and the sgt. may be wrong). The bad decision could have been to break the law and drive into an area where random checks are done. You are making an assumption that the guns were loaded accidentally, and the sgt. is making an assumption that they were loaded intentionally.

Yep, welcome to California, home of hypocrisy.

They can trample your rights, but if you exercise your right to vote as you wish, they'll publicly harass you.

I wouldn't want guns around either, if that was my modus operandi.

I got out here Sunday night. There is a temporary sign just before the ramp from Century Blvd to the departure level saying something like "Checkpoint Ahead". There is nothing I could find on the airport website that even mentions vehicle checkpoints, let alone that weapons are porhibited in vehicles. I didn't see any signs on the lower arrivals level. Regardless, here we go again with another warrantless checkpoint with virtually no rules. I'm surprised they don't check citizenship while they are at it.

Most if not all and definitally all cat-x airports have these checkpoint areas set up.

They are staffed based on local alets, watches, amber alerts, etc.

LOS ANGELES -- A man who was stopped at Los Angeles International Airport with more than a dozen guns and 1,000 rounds of ammunition in his truck has pleaded no contest to a weapons charge.

Phillip Dominguez, 47, of Orange, pleaded to a misdemeanor Friday in a Los Angeles courtroom and was sentenced to three years of probation and 80 hours of community service.

Eight felony charges and two other counts were dismissed under a plea agreement.
