Last week I was checking in at the DL FLL counter as my connecting flight in ATL was being cancelled. I had to get to DC for a meeting that afternoon and the next connection would not get me there until 4pm (too late). There was a "barely legal" (1 minute under minimum time) connection that I could probably make if the gates in ATL were on the same concourse, which they were. Only problem -- I had a bag to check. Since it was roll-aboard size, I quickly consolidated 3 bags down to 2, the agent gave me the "barely legal" connecting boarding pass, and I headed to security.
The part I can't even believe, but it is true, is that as my bags went down the belt, I remembered I had my full-sized toiletries in the roll -aboard so I told the TSA guy that it would probably get pulled because of it. I get to the other side and everything came thru without anyone saying anything, so off I went.
But wait -- that's not the end of the story. When I opened my bag at the hotel in DC, not only did I pull out all my full-sized toiletries, but I also had a box cutter in the bag.
Why on earth would I make that one up? I go thru FLL TSA every week and have had my share of inconsistencies and learned to live with them. This one, though, I thought was a bit much.
Since 9/11, I accidentally took a pocket knife on one occasion, and on another flight, a 14" screwdriver - both R/T. That wasn't recently, but perhaps 3 years ago.
Programs: Anything and everything I can sign up for. At least the ones I can get some benefit from.

I'll buy that. A couple of weeks ago flying out of TPA, the screener takes my carryon off the belt to check it. Misses 3 bic lighters, a pocket knife, a laser pointer that looks like a .30-06 shell and CONFISCATES MY DING DONG DEODORANT!!!!!!
I feel as safe as you
Safe travels

A colleague of mine discovered that she left a 10" kitchen carving knife in her bag for 3 trips. She asked me to ship it home to her rather than risking checkpoint #4.

DEN--I watched a guy CUT INTO LINE, ignore everyone who pointed out where the back of the line was, WATCHED him hide a pocketknife in the gray bin under his blaser, I TOLD A SCREENER at the far side of the WTMD what I had seen adn was told, "Oh, it's probably some kind of a test or something."
What is it that the signs say? "If you see something, say something"? Well, I did and the security pros at the TSA blew it off as inconsequential. Even more scary--the X-ray moron didn't catch it!
You don't pofessionalize until you federalize, right, mister Daschle? "It's probably some kind of a test..." Well, using that logic, perhaps 9/11 was a test to see how big the NEXT one can get!

In recent days, I've accidentally taken a few things in my
carry on bag without being caught, but I would not worry
about the security due to such lapses.
To be honest, TSA does not make a dent in the safety of travel.
Air travel is the safest way to travel and it will remain so whether
we have TSA or not.
