I am a physician and University Professor. My job entails practicing medicine (cardiology), doing research and teaching. I also have an advanced degree in physics and most of my research involves the interface between medicine and physics. I am a frequent traveler (> 1 million miles), and most of my travel is business related.
I have many, varied interests, and when I travel for pleasure, it is generally sports related - fishing, skiing, golf, scuba. I have some knowledge of law enforcement - I have been a deputy in two jurisdictions, and have gotten to know many police officers and sheriff deputies, having worked closely with them in treating trauma victims (themselves and others).
I am a very optimistic person and politically a liberal, which is what attracted me to this forum. I am also not bashful about writing letters to elected and appointed officials.
OK, time to chime in. I'm a law student--soon to be a lawyer --in NYC. That doesn't mean anything I say can be taken as legal advice, because I know nothing about the law. I do, however, know how to argue, which seems to come in handier on FT (particularly in this forum) than actual knowledge.
There are just too many areas one can get into as a lawyer. The field is extremely broad that even the most expert lawyer still need legal advice. Good luck with your study.
My experience? I served as a Military Intelligence officer in the United States Army for a little over 20 years.
Son, I was in the INTC back when you were pulling pigtails on little girls in the seat in front of you. So far back, in fact, that USAINTS was located in Ft Holabird.

Bart, thanks for the great post of who you are and why you are a screener. I think that most of us who seem anti-TSA are certainly not against the screener, but rather the policies associated with screening. It's the management, both at the mid and upper layers that upset many of us.
But I would like to ask you about this point...

If you were to be offered a position that had a more real and immediate effect on terrorism, would you prefer that to screening? Many of us do not truly believe that today's TSA has a material effect on terrorism. Or to be more to the point, perhaps 99% of the TSA policies do not have any more effect on terrorism than the old screeners had.
And I will certainly echo your point about remembering the soldiers who fight and die for us. They are the true heroes. In fact remembering all the soldiers throughout American history and the sacrifices they made for our freedom is why I fight so hard against people taking away our liberties in the name of temporary security.

I am a 42-year-old female with a bachelor's degree in education and about 13 years of middle school Math/Science and Social Studies teaching experience under my belt. I also have some travel and tourism training. I attended the University of South Florida
I was the child of am Army Officer, I am the wife of an active duty military officer. I have lived in El Paso and CRP Texas, PHL Pennsylvania, TPA Florida, ATL Georgia, Washington, DC, MEM Tennessee, Aguadilla Puerto Rico, Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Bay Area of California
I golf, shop, lunch, book club, girls night out and meet for coffee weekly
I traveled often with Eastern Airlines back in its heyday. They actually went out of business and left me stranded while I was visiting was my husband, who was not my husband then, just a cute guy with shoulder boards. So I guess I should thank them. Now I am content to fly who ever goes there directly and fits my time schedule. I often accompany my husband and attend military related functions.
I am currently in the process of pursuing employment as a TSA screener at OAK. I found this site to be a very good tool at thickening my skin and enjoy the information.

I’m Janet; I work for Randy Petersen. I’ve been a ‘lurker’ since the day we launched FlyerTalk.
I’ve been working for Randy nearly ten years now, but I hate to fly! (This wasn't a question on the job application)
I've spoken to many of you and visited with a few during the Colorado Springs Freddie Awards.
I find that when I really need to know 'the truth' of things in the world I turn to FlyerTalk.
Thank you, for your knowledge and wisdom.

We haven't had any new posts for a couple of weeks so we'll "unstick" this for a period. We'll revive it down the road to catch new posters who join the TS/S Forum in the future.

Oh man. Cleveland will be a shock to your system after Manhattan. Hope you can take it for three years of law school.
