Question on latex glove change request

If I have the right to request an inspector change his gloves before he touches me or hand searches my carry on can that right be extended to the document checker?

"Please change your gloves before you handle my ID."

Or how about when the inspector picks up my bag to send it through the xray machine again?

Silly? Yes. But it's their rule and could be fun if everyone requested it.

You can request it for any TSO. Do it if you want, really won't upset me. All you would do is waste your time and the time of the travelers behind you. Other than that feel free!

Edit: actually upon second thought, I just realized how this might be handled at the TDC. Usually gloves are not kept down there. To get gloves I would have to call for them on the radio, have you stand aside while we wait for them to come, and check other peoples documets.

How totally ironic that you say that, being as that's exactly what you and yours do to the entire flying public.

Why would anyone working a checkpoint not be properly prepared for typical situations?

That would be like a tow truck driver not bring all his tow equipement with him. A mechanic starting a job without his tools. A fireman without his turn-out coat.

Why can't TSA do things professionally?

That's a rather abhorrent attitude given the current climate of H1N1 out there. Have you ever been on a plane quarantined because of H1N1 fears? I have. It's not fun.

The fact of the matter is, you and the rest of the TSA view the gloves to simply protect screeners. To people like me, they're petri dishes of heaven knows what. And I have seen plenty of screeners sneeze into those gloves. And you want to dive into my toiletry bag for a bag check?

Is it that tough to do what I see other TSAers do....carry a spare pair in a pocket?

YUCK. I will not accept gloves from a TSO's pocket. Gross. If that means I have to wait while s/he saunters away to get a box of gloves, then so be it. You would not believe the looks I get (well, maybe this group would ) when I say that I want a fresh pair from a box, not a pocket.

Right on the money! SATTSO has a good attitude about this, but I've seen many, many screeners who don't. I'm tired of the labored and dramatic sigh, accompanies by rolled eyes, when I politely ask that gloves be changed before a TSO dives into my carry-on and starts rooting around.

In your opinion; I happen to disagree.

That's why I REFUSE to carry a spare pair of gloves in my pocket. We agree, it is disgusting.

I never do things to be vendective. Ever. If a passenger wants new gloves, I will HAPPILY get them. It will not happen as quick as a snap of the finger, sorry.

Edit: I change gloves after EVERYTHING I do. Everything. I do not wear gloves at TDC. It would not be possible to change gloves after every person. I use hand sanatizer often, so often my skin on my hands bleed after work. If a passenger appears to be sick, I offer the choice (if they don't ask) to wait while I get gloves, or to have them hold the ID while I screen the ID, so that As best I can I limit touching them.

I try to avoid the glove issue by having everything in my carry on bag in Zip-Loc bags that are not overpacked so everything can be seen.

I also have new, fresh and clean Zip-Loc bags for repacking. Hotel rooms aren't so clean.

99% of the screeners in the US and elsewhere have been very professional when checking my stuff.

If your carry on bag is packed so it looks like the dog's dinner, expect the screener to paw through it.

What is properly prepared for the TDC? I change my gloves after each thing I do, should I do that after each persons ID I check? Do you wear gloves to shake everyones hand you meet? How many gloves, how much money, would it cost if each person at TD in each airport changed gloves after each persons ID they check?

As I said above, I sometimes ask people to hold their own ID as I check it, I use so muc hand sanatizer I nearly take a bath in it, and I do wash my hands so many countless times a day.

Hmmm, wash your hands too many times and you'll wind up with a condition well known to OCD sufferers where your hands resemble raw hamburger because you've literally washed off your skin.

I didn't suggest that the TDC change gloves (should they wear them) after every person. I really don't see the need for the TDC to always wear gloves.

I did suggest that each TSA station have the common supplies that may be required during a typical day at ready. If that is a box of gloves then they should be prepositioned at the beginning of each shift.

Really not to much to ask for.

new gloves for an id check?

what do you normally do when someone offers you a handshake? decline?

and how do you deal with the ticket agents that handle everyone's passport barehanded?

You do know everyone's not using that little scoop in the AC pretzels and those pinchers in the cookie tray, right?
