Travel insurance companies

Did a search and didn't find anything relevant. I am looking for travel insurance for my parents' upcoming oversea trip. Got some quotes from insuremytrip.com and need to decide which company to go with, namely, Amex vs. CSA vs. International medical group. I am mostly interested in your experiences on actual claims with any of above companies. TIA.

I believe all of those offer secondary coverage vs primary coverage. Secondary coverage means that your parents' own medical, homeowners insurance etc. will have to pay first before the travel insurance pays.

Primary coverage means that you simply file the claim and the insurance pays.

Since I prefer to have Primary coverage, I've never bought from those companies. I have bought from Travelguard. Have not had to file a claim but other people I've traveled with have done so and were paid promptly.

I too have bought from Travelguard; if your parents have Medicare they are NOT covered overseas; if they have secondary insurance verify if it covers overseas medical. Also, in the current economic situation, read the coverage allowances for bankruptcy of tour provider and/or airline. I've never needed to use my coverage either; but I also know others that have used it and were paid promptly (repatriation of spouse that died overseas (very tragic))..but very expensive.

I have dealt with TravelGuard once and it was a very easy and efficient process to file a claim and be reimbursed. Highly recommended.

You first need to figure out what they need coverage for. Then you need to read the policies to make sure they have coverage for what they need coverage for. Each policy will have different definitions of what is a covered event.

Are you looking for cancellation, baggage, trip interruption, medical, etc? Personally I use travelguard when I travel because they are primary, but I have never had to file a claim.
