Carry-on only for a 10-day trip?

Any road warriors out there have experience with packing carry-on only for a 10 day stint? I'll be heading to PPG, CPH and BCN in the summer and have a standard Atlantic Roller and a carry-on sized duffel.

What packing tips do you have? How do you account for different social situations/activities? 6 Flights, so I don't really want to check anything...

Thanks!

You can pack your clothes in those travel bags (there are different brands) that you roll up and squish all the air out. The first time I traveled for a week with all my clothes in one of those, my boyfriend scoffed.

We just bought him a set after our last trip They work really well at compressing bulky clothing without leaving them all wrinkled.

If you buy several of these bags, you can pack what you need for different activities separately, such as all your business clothes in one, warm weather/casual items in another. That way you aren't unpacking/repacking everything each time you stop.

make sure everything matches everyone else in wardrope

Make sure every piece of clothing match other pieces of clothing (Use Polos instead Dress shirts)

Personally i am trying to cut down on clothes that I bring on my trips. I probably won't bring more than 4 sets of clothes on monthlong trip (trying to avoid checking bags) and probably 2 sets of clothes on 2-3 day business trips.

Take out anything unnecessary, ie shampoo, lotion, etc.

"..travel bags .. squish all the air out" ~
giant Zip-loc (2 gal?) fit the bill too, & 'way cheaper. Take extras. Bag *everything*.
Pack a small size Woolite & you won't be carting so much dirty stuff around .. and/or abandon some along the way

Managing with one carryon for a ten day trip is vastly better than managing for three days without your checked bag - and while it doesn't happen every time, a small risk of a really bad situation is worth avoiding.

I believe that 10 days with one carryon is feasible, but harder with a rollaboard than with a Red Oxx Air Boss, for example. The wheels and the handle tubes take up space are reduce flexibility as does the arrangement of the top.

I strongly recommend the site http://www.onebag.com/ - I have used a lot of the advice here, both in how to do it and what to buy to make it possible.

Enjoy the trip, however you pack!

I usually have a 22" carry-on and a knapsack for 2-week trips. I try to minimize the toiletries to the knapsack, as well as things like a camera, books, one change of clothing (just in case I am forced to check my carry-on and they lose my bag -- thanks LH!) In the carry-on, I usually include thinner clothing, wrinkle-free or linens and most of this clothes are quick-dry so that I can quickly rinse them in the sink, squeeze out the water and hang them to dry overnight. This is much easier in warm climates, or single altitude trips.

Remember that if you are doing inter Europe trips in Y, the carryon requirements are tighter than in NA - not just in number of pieces, but also size/weight.

I'm actually trying to do a 3 week trip through Asia with just a 22 inch Tumi T3 and small backpack. Will this be possible? I'm fine with getting my laundry done at a hotel about halfway through the trip.

I'm a little nervous about my flights through LHR - are passengers still only allowed 1 carry on total (including computer bag or backpack)? If so, I'll have to check it at least for my flights to/from LHR, right? I'm thinking that could be a bit of a problem considering my routing is LAX-ORD-YUL-LHR-SIN-SYD, all connections, no stopovers.

I'd recommend any newbie to carry-on only travel read www.onebag.com. It's very enlightening and you can adapt the suggestions on that site to your own needs.

I do 14-21 days trips with a carry-on only. Pack for 1 week and hotel laundry/laundrymats become your friend.

Do you really need more than 3 pairs of pants and 5 shirts and 6 days worth of undergarments?

I used to bring "old" clothing on a 10 day long trip and toss them out halfway. Then buy new stuff and wear that for the rest of the trip.

All of those cities mentioned have laundromats.I can survive for 5 days without doing laundy-then I find a laundromat.
There are small bottles of woolite-great for shirts and underwear.
My last trip was to Frankfurt and Barcelona-my friend was pretty upset when I told him"Laundry day"claiming he did not want to have to do laundy on vacation- told him this was standard practice for me and to get over it!He did bless his heart

Hotel laundry

For a guy, 2 pairs of pants, 4 shirts, 4 sets of uw should be all you ever need.

Any ballpark ideas on how much laundry will set me back at Westins or Sheratons in cities like SYD, SIN, HKG, BKK, KIX, and NRT? I don't expect it to be cheap, but just curious as to how much laundry (not dry cleaning) will cost, since I've never really checked. I'd guess that I'd want to do a pair of shorts, a couple shirts, and a weeks worth (maybe 10 each) of boxers/undershirts/socks.

I'm hoping no more than maybe $75? Am I crazy to expect such a low price for some of these locations?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just find a neighborhood laundromat of some kind? I know there are some Sheratons that have self-service laundry machines (e.g. Toronto).
