These have gotten for their light weight, warmth and resistance to body odor.
Based on the reviews I've ordered one for use in chilly air conditioned planes, buses and upper elevation use for a forthcoming trip to Myanmar.

For a much cheaper (slightly thicker and coarser) option, my Costco has merino short sleeve tees for $16.99. Last year they had short and long sleeve options. It's still 90 here, so the long sleeve options haven't come out yet
And yes, I typically buy my merino stuff from Sierra Trading Post, but I usually can't pass up Costco prices and grab what I can
