You blame me? It is your fault I have the Briggs & Riley U116 in my closet!!!

As for the Goruck, the GR1 is 26L and the GR2 40L. I have both and choose the right one depending on how much stuff I need to schlep. Both fit in the overhead effortlessly. If I have to go to a client site at a "fancy" client (east coast bank etc), I'll use my Tri-Star from Tom Bihn.

It was a Bombardier Dash 8 - a really small plane with small overheads. I Don't know if the CRJ200 is bigger or smaller, but based on images I see on google, it seems the Dash 8 is smaller.

I was just returning from a 6 day international trip with my Gate 8 fully stuffed and this was the regional hop before I got home.

I've figured out a correct strategy for GAs not to stop me. Irrespective of whether my G8 can fit in with laptop attached or not, I always zip it off and carry on the other hand. When the bag is zipped out, the G8 looks really thin and no GA has ever looked twice. Infact this time, I walked up to one to re-confirm and he reassured me it will fit in and I don't need a tag.

Here it is without the laptop bag with a lot of space left on top in the overhead. I actually put my laptop bag on top after I settled down - there was no reason for me to stick it under the seat.

Do you happen to have a photo of the main portion of the bag in one of those regional jet overheads?

Not sure what you mean? The photo above is of the main portion of the bag (not the laptop attachment) inside the overhead of the Dash-8

Ah, fantastic!! I misunderstood. I thought that was the laptop bit.

Since most of my flights are on CR2's, this has been an interesting thread.
It looks like either the BR U116 or the Gate8 bag might be my best bet.
Has anyone been able to test any other bags that fit on the CR2?

Currently, I am leaning towards the BR, due to my extensive experience with the brand, but I wouldn't mind trying the Gate8.

The BR U116 fits right into the overhead bin on a CR2, wheels out. I love mine. Wife got jealous, so I had to buy one for her, too.

I think that's my #1 choice. I have a couple of BR bags and I have always loved their warranty - and they are built like a tank.
I got some repairs done to the 21" carry-on last year, and they made it look like new.
It's one of those rare companies where the warranty is not a gimmick, and they stand by their word.

I can confirm that the Gate8 bag fits, with a laptop bag attached, in the overhead bin of an ERJ-145 or CR2.

The planes may be the devils chariot, but at least my bag fits.

I regularly fly in the sardine cans... er CRJ200's... with Delta and
invariably they always tag the rollers to be stowed underneath.

The attitude seems to be if it has wheels it will get tagged.

Happens here also. Even when things fit. I wish someone made a bag that could "hide" the wheels. So they can't see them.

Are they hidden on some of the Eagle Creek rolling backpacks?

Interesting. My B&R U116 has never been tagged, and as a long suffering Cincinnati hub (can I still call it a hub?) captive, I endure the Barbie jets a lot. I always make sure to retract the telescope handle and *carry* the bag when boarding the plane. It really doesn't look very big when you hand carry it, and I've never had a gate agent even bat an eye about trying to stick me with a pink tag.

Aside from taking a bag on the plane and seeing if it fits, I wonder if one can rely on the measurements by the manufacturer.

I'm leaning towards the U116, but I would also consider the following:

- Eagle Creek wheeled tote: http://www.ebags.com/product/eagle-c...ed-tote/237347

- Transcend rolling cabin bag:http://www.ebags.com/product/briggs-...uctid=10106544

I just wouldn't want to get one of those only to find out that they won't fit.

Love, love my Tumi super-ledger international! It even fits under seat on row 3 f (bulkhead on RJs). Amazing how much it holds!
