The best sleepmask in the world
I think I have tried most every sleep mask in the market. Every birthday or holiday someone gives me a new one as a present, thinking they can outdo the simple one that I use.
However I simply have never found one better than the standard old Bucky Foldable Sleep Mask with pouch. This is b/c this one simple Bucky is the only one that doesn't have an annoying clip on the side, or a stupid velcro overlap on the back of the head (that causes discomfort when my head touches the seat back), or some other dumb thing that gets in the way when trying to sleep. The old Bucky has a very soft velcro adjustment on the side, it's soft enough that if you touch it you barely know it's there.
Now Bucky has discontinued my favorite mask and I can't find one to replace it. Mine is getting very worn. I visited 3 travel stores today and tried around 15 masks. Every one has a clip on the side (which would be annoying) clip on the back of the head (um, do they realize that this is going to be annoying when you lean your head back?), velcro overlap on the back (not as annoying as the clip but still pretty annoying) or non-adjustable elastic bands.
Does anyone know of either a place to get the now-discontinued foldable Bucky mask or know of a suitable replacement?
Does anyone know why Bucky creates all of their sleep masks with thick velcro or clips at the back of the head?

Hi there,
I feel your pain and frankly, I'm not sure if I can be of great help. However, I noticed that the sleepmask which is handed out on Qatar airways is similar to what you describe (one broad band, a discrete metal clip on the side, no Velcro).
Maybe this could be further explored (where they source the mask).
Cheers, Sebastian

I ended up buying a Lewis & Clark and having the side thick Velcro removed by a tailor. It's now a "custom" sleep mask..
I wish the bozos at Bucky's would actualy try using their own masks...

dfyant,
Just a thought, maybe you could try looking on EBAY. They sometimes still have older models of items to sell... Best of luck.
I'm trying to find a seller that will ship to canada without charging an arm and a leg for the Bucky 40 blinks mask.
Best regards,

Nice and educating thread for somebody like me who has always relied on cheap/free masks found in travel kits. Just by googling around, found an interesting buying guide: thecompletesleeper.com/Articles.asp?ID=132. The same site has various Bucky's in $6-9 range.

Going to pick up the Bucky 40 Blinks and Dream Essentials Sweet Dreams masks. One is bulky and one is light/flat. Well post reviews once I receive and test them.
Placed order on the 17th and still have not heard anything regarding shipment from thecompletesleeper.com Emailed them and even left a voicemail but no reply as of the 20th. The Dream Essentials was shipped on the 18th. Anyone have any past experience with thecompletesleeper?

The Sleep-On-It™ is the most comfortable and effective sleep mask on the market. Perfect for anyone who has to sleep during the day when light and sound interfere with the ability to rest. Power nappers love it. New moms who need to nap to survive love it. Early wakers can go back to sleep for hours when the sun wakes them too early in the morning. Great for students, patients, flight attendants and pilots, shift workers. CPAP users say that it holds their mask more comfortably in place. Even when there is no need to block out light, the Sleep-On-It TM Sleep Mask is so comforting that it puts you into deep restorative sleep.
