Just picked up a Manfrotto Befree, aluminum

3.1 lbs, 15.7" long.

New in box shipped on ebay for $100. Surprising deal.

Adding:

I was very surprised at the weight difference for the carbon:

1100 grams (2.42lb)
vs
1400 grams (3.08lb)

300 gram difference, or 10.7 oz

I had expected more difference....

That is over a 25% increase in weight from the carbon fiber, which is not insignificant. In addition to its lighter weight, carbon fiber has greater resistance to vibration and greater torsional stability compared to aluminum.

Going from 1 mg to 1g is a 99,900% increase in weight. And is insignificant to me (and most?) in terms of my camera bag/backpack.

10.7 oz is 10.7 oz. It adds up, and dropping a few pounds is nice. Cannot deny that.

In terms of torsional stability, it is true that POUND FOR POUND or for a given cross section, CF has improved characteristics. Whether CF is superior in that product has not been tested/demonstrated.

All we can say is "for $250 more you can carry 10.7oz less weight- your call"

Finally tried this out - multiple parts broke, not steady, incredibly poorly made - don't even consider this for anything near serious

FYI, the MeFoto, Dolica, FotoPro, Came, etc. travel tripods are all rebranded versions of an OEM tripod made by Benro [Mefoto is actually Benro's "lifestyle" brand] - or a knock-off of same.

The one I have from Costco is similar to this. No problems with it. No parts have broken, it is steady and I find it well made. It is the one I mentioned in this thread almost two years ago.

Looks like that-but honestly the one in the picture looks sturdier...maybe I just got a bad one, but it really was so awful.
