A beautiful picture, Madone59! It doesn't always have to be a great scenery or close-up of a person. A picture of such a detail combined with a story like this can be equally powerful.

In the same category, another picture from my last set of pictures of Crete which fit the topic. Of the brave heroes who died trying to defend Crete from the German invasion during WWII, outnumbered and outgunned, they hold on for weeks until they had to give up, with many being evacuated in Dunkirk-style evacs from the southern coast. Another must-mention is the brave local population of Crete, who managed to operate an underground resistance movement even if the Germans out of retaliation wiped out entire villages and their population.
