Despite having worked on the Alaska Railroad at one time, I usually enjoy other railroad systems better than the AKRR, but to me the emptiness of the huge treeless plain and the massive mountains rising up (including, of course, Denali, whose foothills are higher than anything east of Denver) is a level of grandeur that is incomparable.
