I have copied the first post in this thread to this wiki so anyone can edit it.

A few people have asked in various threads, and I though that this might be a good opportunity to have some instructions for the various image hosting services out there on how to present their images on the TPF forum. I'm going to include the couple responses I've already drafted, but if people have info for ones I haven't included feel free to suggest the provider to me and/or write up the instructions.

If you're having trouble posting images and cannot seem to figure out why they aren't showing up in the post, make sure to check your profile settings. There is an option to display images or not, and that may be the source of the problems. To get to the setting, click on the My FlyerTalk link, then on the Edit Options link. On that page scroll down and make sure that the check box is selected next to the option "Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)" and save the settings. Hopefully that will fix things.
Update:
Just wanted to add a welcome to folks who are coming over to this thread from some of the other fora that recently had photo embedding enabled. If you're having any problems or want to include details about a new hosting service please feel free to post in this thread and/or PM me.

Edit image size from another link
I couldn't find answer to my question after reading the thread postings.
How do you edit image size that is on 3rd party web link - for example I want to shrink the inserted images to my post #79 to medium size (from original largest size to avoid page width expansion scroll hassle) for thread
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip-...t-ca-cx-6.html
Also, any chance FT will soon let you upload image from your PC (if it does not act as hosting service) ? It is hassle to look up multiple picture hosting sites to load and then find the pictures, when sometime you just want to quickly upload a few pictures from your PC (this is where your pictures are stored originally).

As noted in the Picasa Web Albums post you can change the number there to one of the following settings to control the size: s144, s288, s400, s640, s720 and s800.
Unless it is actually your image you aren't going to have any other control over it. And using someone else's image as yours without giving credit is not good. If the original is yours then next time you post it in your blog just post a smaller original file in the post.
Here are a couple examples of smaller versions of the photo:

Thanks for the answers. I've fixed the image width problem in my post 79.
I actually don't blog and was just giving some helpful info. Yes that unagi bento does taste as good as it looks because it's made fresh in-house (not pre-frozen from ?), and it's 1/3 price of Tokyo restaurants. That's why Taipei residents and tourists from Japan and Hong Kong pack this place daily.

Trying this out...in preparation for soon to be published trip report from West Africa!
Question: do Facebook privacy settings affect who can view images shown here that are hosted on FB?

The images must be set to "everyone" for them to show up on 3rd party sites. And Facebook really is a bad hosting source for integrating here but if that's what you've got then go for it.

OK good to know...I don't have a problem making this album available to everyone, but I do agree with you that it's not a great hosting source. I am prolly gonna give Picasa a try; I like the different size settings.

Here's another option for one-off image hosting as suggested by another member. Hopefully it is useful.
For some time now I've been using http://simplest-image-hosting.net/ because their Firefox add-on (linked from their home page) makes it ridiculously easy to use. No account required, just click the add-on's icon in FF, select the image on your computer, and grab the BB code from the page displayed.
The main downside: the automatically generated thumbnails are too small to be useful, IMO. I always end up grabbing the image URL and using it to edit the auto-generated BB code. (If necessary, I can create a separate thumbnail and change the URL to link to the full size version.)
Of course with no account there is no way to look through an album of your photos, so it isn't a good choice for trip report image hosting, but most of the images I use on my FT posts are one-off screen captures, and the site is perfect for that.

I am new to adding images from Photo Bucket to FT posts and am trying to imbed images into my trip report: trip report.
How do I prevent the link to my whole album as I would like to add individual images to a series of posts?
Hope this makes sense - it's a bit complex for me!

If it is still not doing what you'd expect post a photo here like it would be in your report and I'm sure we can figure it out.

I am one step closer as I left clicked on the image and chose "Copy image URL" which gives a link to the one photo now but I could not find an option for IMG code.
Unfortunately the photo is not displaying in the post though.

Thanks for your assistance - it is greatly appreciated.
